Had the trusty bravo for nearly two years now, and considering I had a 2.5 v6 mg zt before it, I've still not grown tired of the 150bhp and the way it goes from 60 to 120mph in 5th gear. Before this car I launched money at cars, but the bravo has had only tinted windows. So I'm quite proud I've managed to leave her completly standard.

But now my warranty is nearly up, I'm getting tempted to spoil her. I'm thinking a private plate, to hide the fact she's nearly 7! And then a remap from Celtic tuning, though I think I want the 175bhp they offer not the 212 as I'm quite fond of all the bits that connect the wheels to the engine.

Visually I just want some 17s to replace my standard 16s and the rear bumper that has the exhaust slot, at which point ill mosey on down to mij and have a cat back fitted. Also I want to find a rear spoiler off another bravo as, I've always thought the lack of one on mine ruins easily one of the prettiest cars a normal man can buy.

And a quick question, does anyone have the 200+ map, what's it like to live with?

Cheers

Nice to hear your starting some modifications :) ive not heard good things about celtic, thier maps are usually generic and not custom, so could cause running problems, personally i would take it to somewhere that does legitimate custom maps. Such as red dot or the guy who used to work for them,( not sure of his name). A bit of research will give you ideas :)

The biggest problem I can foresee would be increasing the bhp beyond 150. Pretty sure that car will have the M32 gearbox used in many Vauxhalls, Alfa's and the Grande Punto Multijet Sporting, and it's got an unhealthy appetite for bearings. I'd suspect that if you up the bhp you'll have to budget for a gearbox rebuild pretty soon afterwards.

Problems are quite well documented on it in the Grande Punto section and on www.alfaowner.com, where a few MiTo TB155 (150 T-Jet) and 1.6 JTDm owners are having problems. Might be worth a read beforehand.

I have limited knowledge of modding but can't see any issue with other things you mention. If all else fails i'm sure a private plate won't harm the reliability of the Bravo ;)

I've seen examples with 180~190 bhp working fine for long periods of time.

The clutch will go faster of course but that depends on your driving, it could go just as fast with 150bhp if you're drive like and asshat.

Actually, one of the most respected Fiat tuner in my country (if not THE most respected fiat tuner) who has worked on many puntos and bravos, states that the bravo (not sure about the punto) clutch is rated up to 200bhp and the gearbox up to 250bhp. Certainly, it has to do with how a person drives, but if you're a bit cautious you won't have any problems.

It may well be but an additional 50/100bhp is going to greatly reduce the longevity of the internals, irrespective of driving style.

If the T-Jet 150 Bravo is fitted with a different gearbox then ignore my cautiousness, but if it's got an M32 box, it'll have problems.

We have a vehicle with one of these gearboxes in the family and at 70,000 miles it's whining and has just stopped freely going into 1st. Looking northwards of £500 to sort it providing it doesn't go bang before we get it to the gearbox specialist, in which case it'll be more, and I think even that estimate is optimistic.

Actually a gearbox is rated according to the maximum torque it can handle, not HP

My gearbox is certainly noisy in 5th and 6th and that's a standard 150 T-Jet with 36k miles on it, I certainly wouldn't trust it to handle more power. The turbo also won't last as long as it will be spinning a lot faster to deliver the increased pressure.

Sometimes I could swear the fiats built for the UK are made of marshmallow. I literally never herd of a modern fiat in my country with gearbox issues, and I spend a lot of time chatting with technicians at fiat dealerships.

Tad, have you got many of the 6-speed boxes in Morocco. Here in the UK they are mostly 6 spped, only a few thousand got the superior 5-speed like you and me :)

have you considered the TMC tuning box?

i have not noticed any problems with the old gearbox, though at times reverse and first are a tad difficult, but tbh its nothing every car ive owned hasnt had.

as for the tmc tuning box, im slightly concerned that this probably isnt great for an engine, how can this thing out of the box know what my car is actually like, and for the price i could get a proper map with before and after dyno runs.

one thing i do know is, it loves bp's ultimate diesel, feels like a different car with a tank of that in her. i used to use it, but then switched off it and once id put some more ultimate in her and she'd re-adjusted the old brain to it, i could easily tell it was drinking red-bull and not plain water. well worth the extra pennies.

cheers

good thing about the tuning box is you can adjust the boost and easily disconnect if you want it back to standard

lol glad you quoted me as ive just realised the diabolical amount of spelling mistakes in it, yeah i see your point. im just worried about the thing destroying my engine before i get the chance to take it off, how much adjustment do they give you?

cheers

there are analogue dials to adjust the boost in 3 hp increments

check out the weblink i gave you

OP do you have T/Mjet? What sort of power would you get mapping/TMC'ing a tjet 150?

p.s if you want a bad gearbox try the GPs lol (not the m32 one). EVERYTHING is difficult. :(
