Poor running at low rpm and low mpg....

Hi guys

Hopfuly someone can shed some light on my issues.

So three or so weeks ago i bought my Bravo 1.9 mjet 150 with a blown turbo. New turbo was fitted, brakes sorted and Mot passed.

I have now been driving round for the last two weeks and have about 900 miles under my belt with the new car. So it looks like my new turbo is fine and everything looks good.

But i do have a few issues.

First one.

I have notice poor running at the low revs. If i'm knocing around town in second and at about 1200 revs, when i put my foot down the engine judders and dosent feel like it has any power. It gets better at 1500 rpm but the jutter is still there and then at 2000 rpm the turbo kicks in and i have loads of power

So what could cause this and what controls the fueling at low revs?
It is worse when cold but still does it after a good drive. Feels like lots of turbo lag etc.

The only issues at the moent is my glow pugs need changing (doing it this weekend) but i sure this should not cause this.

Second one.

What MPG should i expect?

When going to and from work (15 miles each way, 50% town 50% 50mph roads) i have been getting about 39 - 41 MPG which i dont mind.

But i went to a show at the weekend near coventry (60 miles each way - nottingham - M1 - M69 - A46 and back) i reset the counter on both trips and both times i only got 40 - 41 MPG and this is on a good run, keeping to 70mph in 6th gear (about 2000 rpm) and using cruise control.

Is this normal or should i be getting more? The reason i ask is in my old 52 plate 1.9 DCI Renault laguna estate i use to get about 41-43 MPG to work and when i go and see my dad in Rugby i get 48-52 MPG

Surly my newer, smaller, more eco car should be better on longer runs than my old tank?

Also could cruise control cause this?

Hope you can help as other wise i love the new car.

Many thanks
Michael

Forget what the dash says, join fuelly.com and record your brim to brim fill ups to see what MPG you're getting accuratly. All seems about right tbh regarding MPG as the dash is so rubbish from experience.

Have you had the EGR valve off and had a look at that? That sounds suspect aside from the juddering...can you describe any other way?

Hi there,

yes i took the egr off when i did the turbo. Other than the oil from the turbo it looked clean. There was no carbon build up. The pin move fine and the egr looks to have been replace at some time as it had a stamp on the out side with the date mar 2010 on it.

The only other way to disctibe it is like turbo lag. When warm its better but still there.

Just feels like theres no power that low down untill the turbo starts to kick in.

The juddering feels like it struggling to get the air or fuel etc.

Thanks
Michael

Re: Poor running at low rpm and low mpg....

I had similar issues with my Bravo, intermittent EGR valve problem, took cleaned it up but didn't really check the electronic actuator which turned out to be faulty.

Had another similar issued on my old Peugeot 306 2.0 TD lack of power and juddering - cause was a dodgy Diesel filter then same thing a year or so later was a dodgy MAF.
