Is it quite straight forward to re-calibrate the brake light switch? my brake lights are on all the time so got all the associated problems (throttle response ruined, no cruise control).

This all started after an emergency stop and my foot slipped off the pedal so im presuming it jumped up past its rest point and altered the switch position.

I take it its a case of depressing the pedal, pull out the plunger on the switch, then release the brake pedal slowly to where it naturally rests?

I had to replace my switch recently as the brake lights were sticking on after pressing down on the pedal. Took me a few weeks to get over the neck injury from stretching in to see what I was doing!

The brake switch is not that hard to remove/reset/replace.

It's just a matter of turnig the switch, and unpluging the connector ( the connector was the most dificult part if you ask me)

Cant believe i missed this thread.
This used to happen to me constantly!
Its way easier to remove the switch, fingers up turn 45 and click out pliers to pull the ratchet out, then hold pedal to floor refit and let it back slowly, it got to the point where i could reset it in TESCO car park in 40 seconds.

This fault is caused by your shoe getting stuck on the pedal when you raise the brake back up.If you lift the brake pedal by not much at all it will throw this fault.

My dealership sent me a new switch out under warranty i changed it and it's not gone since.

But nothing worse than driving over 30mph, then "BEEP" ESP disconnected,Hill hold fail,ABS fail,
pull over reset, drive on.

How do I reset the switch?
I bought a Bravo 2008 2 days ago and have ASR, EBD & ABS error messages. I was pointed to a thread advising that the brake switch can be the problem. I removed and and tested and it seems to be ok.

How do I reset it?

Thanks.

Get the switch out,
Grab the plastic cylinder ~6mm in diameter with pliers and pull it out.... it will come out an extra ~1cm .

Push the break pedal, and keep it pressed and then install the switch back.

When you release the pedal the switch will reset.

ASR ebs etc errors can be caused if you disconnected the battery, they go away when the steering angle sensor recalibrates. to do that it takes a few turns of the wheel from one extreme to the other, then to center... repeat it a few times.
