Hi guys

I've been going over and over previous threads looking for an answer and am still at a loss.

I have a 1.9 150 Multijet Bravo and in the last 3 weeks I had a strange problem which I'm thinking may be the EGR valve from what I've read.

I start the car fine after standing over night or for 8 hours in the day during work, I pull off fine up to 3rd then exactly 30 seconds in or on exactly the same part of the road every day I have to drop to second to slow down, on pulling off again at about 1700 rpm 20mph ish I lose all power and the revs drop. It take about 10 seconds for revs to build again with my foot flat down and then the car bursts into life at about 3500 rpm and then the problem happens again at all until after work or the following morning( as the revs are building up again though during the loss of power, the rev counter reads about 3000 rpm yet I can hardly hear a sound out the engine compared to a 'normal 3000rpm sound' if that makes sense?

I would consider cleaning the EGR valve myself but I'm not too confident to be honest, but equally don't want to take her to a garage I case I get stung for a simply problem.

It's a 2008 with 50,000 miles also if that means anything and pretty certain nothing has been cleaned or replaced before.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Before this car I had a Peugeot 306 2.0 Dturbo and I had exactly the same problem, complete loss of power. I took off the MAF sensor to check and clean, I accidentally broke on of the pins/circuits inside - snapped right off.

Refitted anyway and Engine warning light went off and car was perfect.

When this happens with the Bravo though I don't get any warning lights at all so would a diagnostic still pick this up the problem?

Ive had a similar problem as well. I done a few things myself, replaced the air filter (which was needing done anyway), cleaned out the egr valve and ran diagnostics which never displayed any fault codes.

A couple of days later the problem became worse and a warning light came up and black smoke was coming out the exhust.

Took it to a garage and they ran diagnostics and said it was an air flow meter (something like that) which cost £252 for parts, labour and diagnostics. Took the car away and the fault came back, no warning light or black smoke just the lack of power issue.

Took it back and they said well its either that or a sensor which they replaced. Again this never fixed the issue.

Third time back and they ran more diagnostics which says the two parts they replaced are fine (of course!) and the egr is fine. Looked under the bonnet and after a while said it was a valve (didnt say which but def not the egr) that needed replaced. He put one on from a vauxhall and took it for a drive and said it was better but not 100% and that he was waiting on a fiat part.

Drove the car home and its still awful, better but still struggling for power. I dont see how the fiat part is gonna make the difference.

So far im looking at over £300 and im no further forward. He said be wont charge for the second part but im still looking at three parts that may or may not resolve the issue!

I'd be taking it to a decent garage not one that just guesses.

totally agree mate but its a catch 22. Already paid £252 out so far with more due. Where do I draw the line and cut my losses cause some other garage is also gonna charge me to look at it and repair it as well.

my dads neighbour is a keen amateur so gonna let him have a look at the weekend if he can.

does anyone know how i stand legally on this. so far nothing they have done has repaired what i put it in for. the guy adamant that he done the correct thing in replacing the first part as it got rid of the warning light but it hasnt resolved the problem i put it in for.

can i get my money back and take the car elsewhere?
