hi i test drove a 09 barvo 1.4 t-jet sport yesterday and all the time i was driving it i could here a quite loud noise comming from what i thought was the turbo (it was a loud whining noise) at low and high speeds in all gears sales ma agreed with me so sent a mechanic out in the car he sed some thing wasnt right the car is still under warranty so sent it across to Arnold Clarks fiat garage other side of town and apparanty the noise is normal its the uprated gear box that the newer models have.

does any body have an 09 or on 1.4 tjet 150 that can confirm or deny this?

I have a 59 plate T-jet sport and the gearbox crunches when selecting gears for the first few miles. That's the only problem I have with mine.

No this noise is a constant noise low and high speeds all gears engine on and off and can still be heard when the stereo volume is at 5.

Had my box refurbished since it had a grinding noise esp in the high gears.. this came gradually after a couple of years.. we split the bill ..dealer and i .. was ssomething with spacers missing putting extra strain on the bearings until they finally gave up.

Cheers

So basicly it's a good chance its bearings in the gearbox and it's only going get worse till it gives out completely?

Also when I sed engine off if your driving down street and turn engine off and let the car roll the noise is still there (not sure on the full ins and out as its just what the mechanic has told me)

Re: loud gearbox noise on 09 models onwords???

no one got an 09 or onwards 150 t-jet????

You might wanna do a search on www.alfaowner.com as a couple of people with MiTo TB 155 engines have had trouble with their 6 speed gearboxes failing.

I'm pretty sure the TB 155 is the same engine as the T-Jet 150 & therefore it probably uses the same gearbox.

Don't confuse it with the problems with MiTo QV/Cloverleaf & Giulietta gearboxes as i think these are different boxes. Even so it's fair to say that the 6 speed boxes used in the higher powered Fiat/Alfa models do seem to have issues at times. The MiTo TB 120 seems fine so i dunno if it uses a different gearbox or whether the reduced power has stopped problems so far - might be worth investigating.

I have a 09 T-Jet 120, and recently had the gearbox fixed.
It made a loud whinning noise in 5th and 6th gear, so they changed some bearings on the high gear axle (at least that what they told me).
It fixed the issue and it's running fine now.

The noise was very apparent when in gear, if I changed to neutral (or used the clutch) it disappeared.

Was this done under warranty? And was it much hassle I'm a bit doubt full as I haven bought the car yet this is only thing putting me off but the car is still under warranty my conserns are that me being the second owner I won't be covered on the warranty?

The car was out of warranty with Fiat Denmark, but since I bought it from a dealer, I get the norminal 2 year warranty as per EU law (and danish law) from the dealer.
So no problems with the dealer, they fixed it without blinking (I even got a free loaner car for the day) and they fixed it faster than they expected :)

I have a 2010MY bravo sport (150) and I can't say I've noticed any noise coming from the gearbox. I have 30k klm (around 20k miles). Being a member on many fiat forums, I can't say I've heard of any bravo's gearbox failing like that. On the contrary, people on the performance modding sector claim that the gearbox on the bravo can handle up to 250bhp and a lot of torque. Should I be worried??

Thread res!

As you know, I am swithering about getting rid of Clunky. One major issue is the gearbox whine, which is now very apparent in 5th and 6th under light loads. It is not noticable when accelerating, and very faint in other gears.

So, does this sound like gearbox bearings?
If so, is it possible to get a gearbox reconditioned, and is this advisable?
If not, does anyone have a rough cost for a new box?

The car has only covered 26000 miles, but this is now a major concern, and will probably be the deciding factor to if it stays or goes.

im sure the 6 speed from a stilo will fit, its the same car after all theres a few on ebay for around the £200 mark, im sure a refurb on the box is something silly like 6-700 thats just going off what ive seen on here though so that might be a bit out

TBH mines the same now, i find it crunching in reverse and third mostly, also a slight whine in 5th/6th more so when you lift off, mine is on 52k now though

had a look at those Polo Dune things myself and the look pretty funky, are they 4wd like the panda?

So not cheap no matter what way you look at it.

Polo Dune is 2WD, basically a Polo with cladding, but would make an interesting wee project. However, more swayed towards a 5 year contract on a new Fabia Monte Carlo, and be sensible!

Ive an 09 1.6 mjet 105 bhp. 2 days before the warranty ran out i left the car in for a service and complained about a whine in 3 gear, which ive had from i
first got the car 18 months ago. Turns out the final drive or diff? and 3rd gear bearings were badly worn and are being replaced under the warranty, with 43k on the clock

Hi Pal,
I have the T-jet 150 which is now approx 180 on an 09 plate. Just had to have all engine mountings changed as my exhaust snapped. At the same time as the mountings, I had it serviced, including cabin filter. I had never until this time noticed any whining, but now I hear a whining in all gears. The cabin filter was black when it came out, so I am presuming the noise has always been there but just dampened, and now with the new filter allowing more noise into the car.
That said, I am slightly worried myself now.
Regards

Phil
