Tuning The Badass Bravo

Tuning The Badass Bravo

Well these guys should be good to do most of the work i'm wanting done, so it's easier using the one place. Turbo technics is based in Northampton so i'd probably need to box my turbo up and send it off, whereas GI Motorsport is in Kilmarnock literally just a few exits down the motorway from me.

A hybrid turbo is essentially a supercharger and turbocharger mixed together, where the turbine is constantly spooling from an electric power source so it almost completely eliminates lag.

I don't mean to be rude, but a Hybrid turbo is basically a turbo that is made up from combining parts of a two or more differing units (here is a good description)…if this place has told you that it’s an electric turbo to reduce lag then I would walk away...to my knowledge there are no electric anti lag systems on the market...you can get anti lag sytems but these use fuel to keepthe turbo spooling (don’t do the turbo a great deal of good either)...also a standard Bravo has no real lag at all…

There are supercharger/turbo systems out there but this would be very expensive and are a separate supercharger and a separate turbo.

I don't know a great deal about tuning the Bravo 1.4 TJet engine but my advice would be,

Get a decent twin scroll turbo to compliment your new cams, a decent exhaust manifold, an efficient intercooler and a decent custom map....that should see some decent gains...Although I honestly don’t know if you would need to look at getting different engine internals as well, like I say my knowledge of tuning Fiat’s is very poor.

I would also look at upgrading the brakes at the same time…some nice 4 potson the front should work well…

Then I would look at seeing if there is an LSD available for the Bravo...our 150TJet loves to spin the NSF wheel and its standard...it would be a nightmare with a decent amount of power…

Then get some decent front and rear anti roll bars to compliment the coilovers decent set of wheels and tyres

(y)

Hope you get the turbo sorted and back on track to making one extreme Bravo....I keep pondering about felting our Bravo a little but the missus won'tlet me (n)....it is after all her car really, I barely drive it and she likes it the way it is adoesn't want the increased insurance premiums but I can’t help thinking that with some very subtle styling tweaks (no body kits or spoilers) and a decent ride height with the right wheels it would look a great car…and then if a bit more power could be squeezed out of the engine even better....

Good luck in your quest and keep us posted…(y)

i was about to respond in a similar way but their website does indeed show 2 stage electric/turbine turbos as claimed

i wouldn't want to be a guinea pig though...

Thanks for your advice, TGood.
I'm going in on Thursday and they are taking the turbo out having a look at it, seeing if its serviceable and generally finding out what all my options are. When we have an agreement on what's to be done it'll get done the following Thursday (my day off work).
So this Thursday I'll be able to let you know the script!

Also think i'll get the cat removed or a new decat manifold, because I imagine if somewhere offers tuning services like this, surely they'd HAVE to pass it on an MOT if they were the ones who did the work?

 i stand corrected then..hope the OP doesn't take offence..as none was meant (y)

certainly not something i have ever heard of, or as you say nor would like to be one of the first to try...

Aren't the Bravo Tjet 150's basicly an abarth gp with a smaller turbo or less boost or something? Pretty sure they're both the same 1.4 turbo setup but I may be wrong :) From glancing over some of the Grande Punto Tjet threads it looks like they're able to achieve over 200bhp with the essesse tubo, intercooler, induction, exhaust and remap, possibly a few have added cams in there also. But check out the GP threads if you haven't already, the Tjet has been well experimented on in the GP ;)

indeed, plenty of Abarth tuners out there

the drivetrain is the same as AGP and essesse turbo should bolt straight on

Update:

The turbine is damaged from shaft play, has been bouncing off the sidewalls a bit.
The guy said he'd get back to me when he finds out whether it's gonna be possible to bore the housing out a bit and get a bigger turbine wheel put in.

I might. Still waiting on him getting back to me. Though boreing the current turbo out could actually make it more powerful than a standard VL36.

I'd be thinking the same man, make your excuses and get your turbo back!

I've still got the turbo on the car, don't worry :p

-

As for why he's taking so long, I don't know, he did say something that made sense to me at the time but I can't remember what it was. He's a cool guy though so I'll wait a little longer before going elsewhere.
The car still drives fine, it's just not as powerful as before. I'm taking care not to go into boost too often.

NO!!!!! dont drive the car with that turbo fitted

your impeller could fracture and the bits get sucked into your engine

I see "Soon to have a massive turbo replacement" Do tell :D

Well the word 'massive' may be a bit misleading :p

but the thing that's exciting me about doing this turbo conversion is that I'm not sure anyone else anywhere has done it yet!
