Afternoon,

I recently purchased a Bravo 1.9 Multijet 150 sport and i was looking to add some drl to it.

Does anyone else here have any experience of doing this? And does it look good??

Would anyone know where i could get these drl fitted? I don't trust myself to do it! I live around the Bristol and Bath area.

Can anyone recommend a workshop to go to?

Hi Most Easterly Pandas, i'd be looking to get the best job done i can, and thats why i'd rather pay someone to do it as i don't trust myself at making it look good :)

Do you know of any good DRL's which you can install into the existing headlights? (like the Audis?)
 
its probably more hassle than its worth to get them in the head lights, trust me mate its really easy to install, put the lights on the headlight or where ever, use electrical tape to tape down the light, or if you can cable tie it to something to make it secure then wire them into the side lights or what ive done is wire them up to the switched positive so they're on constantly when the ignition is on.

Was thinking about putting them either side of the grille with the Fiat badge in it, will up load photos when i get and install them.

I hate DLRs, even on Audis. They look cheap to me. The only ones i have seen i like are Tads. I would say, if you're gonna do it, get some high quality bulbs and do as he has done. Otherwise they look a bit 'Chav'd Corsa.' Besides, if you have them within a certain distance of the indicator, you are meant to have them dip so the indicator is more visible than the LEDs. Just watch an Audis on the rare occasion they decide to indicate for a turning.

Actually, I like them on a particular silver Audi I saw this morning in the thick fog. They were the only lights the T**t had on, so it was handy he couldn't turn them off.
 
Where is the best place to connect them? without having the lights on.

at the moment i've got a wire from the switched positive on the cruise control stalk (i believe its yellow) into the engine bay via the driverside 1/4 pannel n down there, me and spampebs are looking into finding a switched positive within the engine bay, i think they may be one in the engine fuse box or to the ECU.

will let you know when i've installed my new ones n had a play with a multimeter

If you can see only the cars that have DRL on the road then you need to stop driving and get your eyes checked.

I live in a place where the sun shines 330 days a year, leaving your lights on during the day makes you look like a tool.

It has nothing to do with sun light; it has to do with security. That's why the motocycles must have the light allways on, to be better seen.

EU makes it mandatory for car makers to build DLR into their cars but it's the countries that decide on the rules applied on their roads not the idotic bureaucrats at the EU commission.

That's why you can disable the DLR, it's not mandatory in every country. The first countries where turning your lights on during the day was the norm were Nordic countries like sweden. After that other countries added the possibility of turning your lights on during the day before making in mandatory for some.

Motorcycles are another story, they're barely visible on a rearview mirror unlike a 1.5 ton car.

oh.. and the sun doesn't shine 365 days anywhere in the northern hemisphere, not even in portugal. there's a little thing called winter, you know... :)

Far from, I'm now going to justify my point of view. It involves my right to be able to drive safely, and daytime running lights are not only for use in sunny conditions, but when people forget to put dipped beam light on in rain etc. Why should I risk a collision because I didn't see someone in a dark coloured car in the pooring rain with loads of spray because they didn't have their lights on? Its an unfortunate fact that people still don't these days.

Now take sun rise, and sunset, bright sunny conditions, with a low sun in your eyes making visibility far from perfect, we've all driven in those conditions. Having lights on with the sun low down behind you does increase your visability.

Equally running through, and in and out of dense forestation on certain roads when its bright and sunny, the contrast in light change means you'll see a car with DRLs or dipped beam headlights on a lot better if its in the forestation coming out towards you, and your still in the bright sun heading into the forestation.

These are the times when DRL's are of benefit, and can be a life saver.

So what are the negative points to DRL's other than looking like a knoob, I'd rather be seen and look like a knoob than be missed) and perhaps using an extra £5 a year is fuel :confused:
