Hi guys, I have an '07 multijet 150 with 62k on the clock. When starting up from cold the engine is unwilling to rev, trying to get off my driveway is becoming increasingly difficult without stalling. After slipping the clutch for about 10seconds just to keep moving slowly, the engine then bursts into life and normal performance is resumed. This problem has appeared in the last 3 weeks, the economy has dropped by about 10% in this time as well, this could be due to the current cold weather maybe. Finally the car makes a clattering noise under load when cold and then intermittently there after when hot, particularly worse in lower gears. I suspect the egr valve. I had it replaced at 23k miles about 2years ago, that time performance was permanently flat below 2000rpm. I don't recall any drop in economy or a noisy engine last time. Any thoughts??

Sounds like the EGR valve, it's reasonably easy to strip it down. but for the purpose of testing. remove the gasket between the valve and manifold and place a thick piece of card in place of the gasket and refit it up and test, if power is restored, then your valve is blocked.

strip it down and check the solenoid plunger to see if it's stuck in. if it is then a new valve is required. i have had partial success of freeing these off but in the main, a new valve.

Sorry if i have babbled... i have had a few to many soda's lol

Cheers, thought it was the egr valve, I'll have to strip it down ASAP, it's getting worse by the day.

So I've replaced the egr valve, problem now worse!! Took it to fiat dealer, they've diagnosed that injector 2 is miss-firing at around 1500 rpm, £400 to replace I've been quoted! I've tried injector cleaning fluids incase there Is some dirt on them but it appears not. Looks like I'm going to have to get my wallet out again, not happy considering it's on 62k miles. Concerned il pay for the repair then another injector goes. Any thoughts?

I dont see why another should go just because one has. Ours has 122k now and had no such issues (touches much wood ;))

Have you tried the injector cleaners with an Italian tune up?

Failing that have you tried an independant? Nearly always cheaper that way....

Yeh I've tried injector cleaner fluid. Yeh gonna get a quote off an independent, I'm sure it will be significantly cheaper. I'll have to get it sorted soon as though as it's quite bad.

Gonna get a quote for a new injector from an independent garage tomorrow. I'm not very technical so apologies if this sounds stupid! I've found out that a replacement Bosch injector for the car is £80, I'm aware that most the cost will be labour charges, with that in mind do you think it's worth having all the injectors replaced at once even though only one of the injectors is misfiring?

If I remember correctly, when injectors are first manufactured they are tested and graded according to how they perform. They are then made up into matched sets for each engine. If you just change one injector, the engine may not run the same. So ideally clean/refurb or replace all 4 injectors.

I didn't remember quite correctly. Elearn says:

During the test stage the injectors are checked with the specifications verified in different pressure/flow rate conditions. All injectors that do not meet a certain standard are rejected; the remaining ones are classified into three grades (1-2-3); this grade is imprinted by laser on the top part of the magnet.
During fitting on the vehicle the control unit should memorise the individual grade and, if one or more injectors are replaced in a service situation the new injector grade should be included during the fault diagnosis using the appropriate equipment.

they are generally divided into class`s for instance our volvo ones are grouped into class 1-5
e.g
1 = 150cc/s flow rate and
2= 250 cc etc etc

they can be replaced individually as long as the injector is replaced with the correct class you do not have to replace all 4 at once

all injectors are marked with there grade/class

Cheers for the info everybody, I'm currently in the process of sourcing an injector, not as easy as I was expecting, nowhere seems to do the correct spec for the multijet 150. At fiat I've been quoted £270 for a reconditioned injector or a shocking £560 for brand new, eek!! Most places only seem to stock injectors for bravo 1 engines.
