This has been somewhat covered here...

https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo/280064-bravo-rear-calipers.html

But I am posting this because it needs reminding of.

DO NOT ASSUME BOTH REAR CALIPERS ARE HANDED THE SAME WAY.

My Rear Left was LH Thread (which is unusual) and my Rear Right was RH Thread.

And now, having turned my LH caliper the wrong way, it has popped and is now an oily mess from trying to fix it. New caliper required.

Something good to also mention is that it does not matter if you replace the caliper with a RH threaded unit.

Tjet & Mjet use same callipers don't they? I thought it was only my 1.4 that has the smaller discs and pads

News to me, this is a good idea if you know about it... lol.

All previous cars I have owned, or cars that I have helped have rear discs/pads done, have been RH on both sides. So I feel this is a good reminder for anyone that is about to do their rear brakes, and does not know that this is how Fiat works this. AKA people that rush in thinking they know it all, like myself.

- Cainy I am unsure on that buddy.

i tried this saturday and my pistons wouldnt even budge no matter which way i turned them pain in the ass as the car isnt even 4 yrs old

made sure i completely left off the handbrake first
even tried undoing the bleed nipples so the fluid could escape from there but no nothing

so i need 2 dam new rear calipers now

Were you pushing as you were turning them? Was your resovoir cap off? I also tried draining the oil but it did not work.

im about to try stripping the caliper down and see if i can free it up or maybe rewind it completely and then put it back on

as you can see both the thread on the piston and the thread in the caliper are fine which still doesnt answer the question of why the 2 dont screw back together
so now im gonna give the thread on the end of the piston a quick going over with some wet n dry to smooth the thread off slightly see if that helps at all any ideas anyone else ?

btw its not currently fitted to the car the bleed nipple it off to and no fluid inside but still not going together

Very interesting, let me know how it goes as I may do the same if you fix it, quick question, what processes are you going through with regard taking the caliper off and refitting?

Are you clamping the hose? When you reattach the handbrake lever do you need to set it up somehow or just pump the brakes and pull the lever to set it?

clamped the hose so no air can get back throu the system dropped off the handbrake cable
popped off the caliper removed the arms on the back and then the piston literately just came out with the tiniest of pulls

just cleaned all the threads and gonna try putting it back together in a moment

take the seal out and bang rewinds perfectly now just gotta put the seal back in and see if i can get the piston past the seal and rewind it then

can not physically force the piston back through the oring seal to catch the threads and rewind it so going to get my self a new rewind tool a moment as cant find the other one

Be careful because as I tried frcing mine through as a last resort, I got oil out of the end of the piston not the bleed nipple, so it does tear the seal easily.

well a little update it due

its all done now both calipers are fine i took the seal out and flipped it over and pushed the piston back down in with the rewind tool i just had to go and buy £33

new discs and pads fitted now just to bed them in
