Hi all,

was looking at my exhaust (Mjet 150) the other day, and can't figure it out: what is what? I am talking about the horizontal bit under the car, from the front to the back... There is something round-ish, then a silencer and eventually the backbox. What the eck is the round-ish thing?

Forgive me if I am asking the obvious, but I am blond after all:idea:

DPF?

If it's under handbrake lever, it will be the catalyst. If its right up close to the engine, around the bulkhead like Andysans picture, it will be a DPF, but thats most unlikely on a 1.9 Mjet 150.

Thanks guys!

Forgot to mention, its a 2007 Bravo, so highly unlikely it is a DPF. I would recognize the cheese grater looking thing (nice description by the way:)), so I would go for the catalyst option.
What does it do exactly? To be more precise, would I have trouble getting my Bravo through MOT etc if I would not have one? Looking at a Ragazzon exhaust, they sell a centre pipe section without any catalyst or silencer...

My guess would be it would fail emissions test as I believe it is there to convert harmful emissions into less harmful ones. Someone more mechanically minded will be able to help here.

I'm pretty sure the Bravo would pass the emissions test without the catalyst. Whether it's a legal requirement to have one anyway, I'm not sure.

I don't know why you'd bother changing your exhaust on a diesel car. No improvement in sound nor performance like it would do on a petrol one.

The only thing you'll get is potential MOT failure and performance decrease.

Ah that's a good one, I'll try and find out...

True, but I'm not in it for the sound (although it will be a side effect...) or performance exhaust alone... The master plan for the Bravo is a filter (done), centre pipe for the exhaust (improved flow without catalyst and silencer), off to Red Dot for a final optimisation :slayer:

You are absolutely right in saying that there will not be as much of an improvement as with a petrol (turbo-) engine, however there must be an improvement with spool up times and therefore engine responsiveness etc... especially as a cumulative effect with the remap etc.
Not?

Well...
Decided not to bother with the exhaust (for now at least...). Drove down to Enfield to treat my Bravo to a Red Dot treatment today. The result: WOW:worship:

No printout before and after unfortunately because there was something wrong with the RR :bang: (oh well it IS Friday the 13th...) but wow what a difference! So much more responsive, bags of (useable) torque at low revs and stuuuuupid fast when pushed, AWESOME.

Oh and they make a cracking cup of coffee ;)

Yes, i went to Red Dot also, got a remap done on my 150 mjet, it got 161bhp from standard. They managed to get up to 206bhp with over 350ft lbs.
Bad news tho, car could handle this and i reverted back to standard and later went on to a adjustable tuning box, which proved to be the better option.
I paid a very good price at red dot, they were very friendly and efficent.
I had bad flywheel judder as there was simply to much torque with the remap.

Anyhow cars gone now, got my A500 160bhp now to play with:D

Sure do, thats why i decided to go for the Essesse ECU. Its within warranty, so i dont want to mess with unapproved upgrades. I know fiat brought out this tuned ECU, so i know it fine. Theres 5 bhp in it anyway i think.
Now that i have a SS ecu i can also put a tuning box on that, so 180bhp is easily achievable, once the warranty expires.

If you know what i paid for this ECU, you would of done the same as me :)
