Technical Timing Belt Change

evey one will tell you the book figures, ebay is full of broken cars for sale by people who went by that. play safe every 36k miles or 3 years

bit of an exaggeration there Dave

but yes a good idea to swap out at half recommended interval

Bravo service guide states
72 k for petrols and 1.9 multijet,
90k for 1.6 and 1.9 16v multijet

Hi guys just wondered when the timing belts are due on the 120 diesels as mine will be four years old in July and is already at 51000 miles.
Cheers Colin

I am just in the process of buying a 2007 Bravo Dynamic 1.9 Diesel, mileage is late 30s, being sold by a Fiat dealership. I got a quote from another dealer on the way to see them, then told the selling dealership I wanted it changing before I would purchase. The quote was £280 inclusive of belt, tensioners, labour and vat.
The dealership says the book is 72k or 4 years.
For £280 its a no brainer to avoid the potential for disaster

HAGD all

3 years???

4 years for town driving
5 years for standart exploatation
...or 36K miles

The interval for the 150MJ is indeed 90k. Changed ours at the 72k service (this was around 3 years). It is important to change the water pump, as on the diesels it is this that causes problems. It can seize then throw the belts.

The garage that did ours said condition of the belts / tensioners / water pump wasnt bad. Still, peace of mind and all that!

Got mine booked into Arnold Clark fiat garage this Friday for the bargain price of £235 for belt, tensioners and water pump.

That's a very good price. Be absolutely certain that they do the waterpump - if the waterpump isn't done then the whole exercise is pointless because it's the waterpumps that cause the problems on (diesel) Fiat's/Alfa's.

Predominantly the 150bhp diesel waterpumps, but even the one on my 1.9 115bhp Stilo JTD was starting to leak at 65,000miles & i've read a few people saying the waterpumps on their 1.3 M-Jet Panda's have started to leak/fail aswell, so i don't think any of the waterpumps are amazing.

4.5 years and (i'm guessing from your original post) around 60,000 miles sounds sensible on the 120bhp M-Jet. I'd be a little bit more keen on the 150bhp M-Jet despite the official interval being longer, as those waterpumps seem to wear out quicker. Im guessing yours is an Active Sport then? - it looks like a Sport in your photo but the 120bhp engine rules out the Sport trim.

If your service is up to date and your belts fail before what it says in the handbook you could sue fiat

Just get it done just before its 4 years old or 60k which ever comes first. Any sooner is a bit ott but everyone is different. :)

I bought a 2009 bravo sport diesel with 28k now done 31k with full service history and two days ago I got a slight rattle and a smell of burning stopped at work had look lots of smoke. I managed to get it home and nipped it garage to find a Cambelt pulley had destroyed it self. Can I try and claim off a fiat as service history is full and Cambelt is under the recommended time

No as it should have been done at 4 years old due to the low mileage, and its also a consumable part and out of warranty.

Just get it changed and count yourself lucky it didn't destroy your engine. :)

Garage said I was lucky to get from chorley to accrington (about 15 miles) without doing major damage but thank god it's just full timing belt kit and water pump as their is play in the pulley. And always worth a cheeky try with fiat.
