Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a Bravo Sport 1.9 MultiJet diesel. The car's a 2008 '57 plate and drives very well. The car has only come into the showroom today and as a result the papers arent available. What the dealer does know is that its done 41k miles and has only one stamp in the book, hence probably only one service. This may have been at 18k miles and the second one was never done at 36k as the owner was trying to sell the car, or perhaps the first scheduled service was a little late. The dealer seems to think that this is not an issue and I would be buying the car with an extended warranty anyway. Should I put a deposit down now, wait until tomorrow for the book to become available or just forget it? I dont want to take any risks here.

Whats worse, an extra 2k miles at the end of each service (i.e. serviced at 20k and then 20k miles done since) or serviced at 18k (and 23k miles done since). Thanks.

You could try looking under the menu settings in the car by holding the menu button and by scrolling up/down etc until you get to the service indicator.

This should tell you how many miles left till the next service and it might give a idea when the last service was? I know its a long shot but I had the same problem with my GP and this helped.

Personally I'd ask for a service of some sort before buying the car

Hi Andysan.

You can't guarantee using the menu to check the service interval because it might be already at zero so you'd be none of the wiser because after a few hundred miles the service light goes out. Also if like mine bought second hand with two years free servicing sounds great, but they haven't got the software to reset the service light so I have to go by the mileage. Apparently (don't know true or not ) only fiat dealerships can reset.
My advice would be to ask the dealership to give in a full service before you buy it free of charge. With it being a diesel going over the service slightly should do any harm.

Like I said it's bit of a long shot but it helped me

Thanks folks, it will certainly be serviced now one way or the other if I buy it, my concern is that this car is currently on 41k miles and has only had one service - assuming that this was at 18k it means that the car is now 5k past its service, if it was at 20k then the car has run 2k past its service twice (as it was late for the first service and has missed the 36k one also).

What are the chances of long term damage that this may have done to the engine please? Im aware that Fiats service intervals are already quite broad (i.e service every 18k instead of every 12k), I really want the car but I'm really afraid to touch it.

Sorry to bump but I may buy this today - any more toughts re servicing please?

plenty of used cars to choose from so why accept one with incomplete service history

to me it says that the car hasn't been looked after properly in general

diesels are partiularly sensitive to oil quality

Thanks for the help all.

I eventually found out that the car was serviced at 14k miles. I seriously doubt that anyone has run this car for 27k miles without servicing it, but I wasnt willing to chance it. Besides, if/when I take out an extended warranty its just one thing for them to moan about.

Problem is that I'm ideally after a Sport or a Dynamic 150 and there arent that many that come up for sale near me at all. It would be difficult for me to return the car to the dealer if there was an issue so I'm trying to purchase from udner 100 miles away. There simply arent enough of them about :(

Keep seeing them on the roads and they are so much nicer than anything else - noticed that the new Astra has mimicked its beauty, shame it will never get the credit that it deserves!

Sorry to dig up a corpse but can anyone remember exactly how to get the service interval up on the computer please - cant seem to find it in any of the menus (even when stopped). I've definitely seen it once before as it was set to 16k which correlated with the service it had 2k ago. Thanks.

Andy,

Hit mode and then scroll round, it is lurking there.

Thanks, got it but it raises an interesting problem.

I forgot that "Mode" actually bought a settings menu up on the dash. Every time I've pressed it recently I've received a beep but nothing on the display that would suggest that the button has been pressed. Surely if the button had broke I would not hear a beep. Even now its very intermittent but always a beep. Anyone else have this?

No bleeps with Bella

we not apart from the ones changing headlamp bulbs or waiting for her to warm up as I freeze my nadgers off waiting for the heating to wake up !!

Not set the speed bell have you ?

No, sorry I mean that it just beeps when I press the button, as I think most of my buttons are set to do. It just doesnt often bring up the Menu. Hope its not another problemo...

EDIT - I've gone outside for a fiddle and have found the following; pressing the "Mode" button always gets a beep, so the button works. If I set the trip comp (not radio display) to display either the CD track number, the radio station or the date then pressing the Mode button gets me into the menu every time. If I change the trip comp to display range, consumption, any of the Trip A/Trip B info or the B&M track playing then pressing the Mode button gives only a beep and doesn't display the menu.

Would fellow Bravo owners mind testing and identifying whether this is standard please? Muchos gracias.

Anybody able to have a go at this please - seems like an odd bug on mine. Thanks

engine has to be on for the computer to work, just like you have to be stationary to access the B&M setting menu, as i found out when the lady in my car shouted at me for trying to access it while moving :D

But with the engine on and the trip computer display set to certain things the Menu button doesnt work for two of us. Thats not right.(n)
