Has anyone else noticed this? When you have your spots on and your main beam all is fine, but when you switch to full beam, the main beam goes off and you are left with a nice black spot where no light goes right in your field of vision?

Can this be changed? I rarely drive with all 3 lights on but when I do it is because I'm needing the light...so if the system could be changed/reprogrammed not to switch the main beam off it would be great...anyone know if this is possible?

I don't think he is talking about the fog lights or fog, I think he is asking if there is a way of having the full beam bulb, main dipped beam bulb and sidelight bulbs lit at the same time. At present the dipped beam goes off when main beam goes on.

Firstly, main beam and full beam to me are one and the same.
Secondly, the Bravo doesn't have spotlights fitted, only foglights.

The foglights are next to useless, so I never use them.

I have no black spot in my field of vision when switching from dipped to main/full beam.
Are your lights correctly aligned?

Main beam is what you use when you are driving in lit streets and it is dark (unless you are a boyracer then it is sides and spots (or fogs if you need to follow marketing speak)) - full beam is when the blue light on the dash comes on. According to the police that my dad teaches and the website I bought my brighter main beam lights from - but I'm happy to accept I may be wrong in my terminology.

If you are driving along a very undulating road then having all 3 on can be helpful - I'm talking singletrack with grass up the middle - this isn't the sort of thing I do on a daily basis, just once every few months. It's only during this time that I notice it. Only one at present I can give as an example is between Fintry-end of Carron Valley and North Third via Earls Hill...

Spots/fogs are next to useless as they only seem to light up the round below my field of vision so they never get used and I've been stopped by the police a few times to tell me I only have one on and I shouldn't when I was going round the corner!

Dave, that explanation makes sense sort of...is there any way it can be changed (the light control, not your explanation!)?

As far as I know my lights are properly aligned.

Cheers.

Ok, thanks for clearing the fog/spots thing up - I thought the name was interchangeable.

So does anyone know how to change the lighting so all 3 can be on at the same time?

Both Wiki and the Highway Code describe 'main beam' as the full/high beam, and to be honest so do I and every Tech I know-

A bit worrying if the Police contradict the Highway Code, lol.

Management of all the exterior lights is by the Body Computer software, and yes, when full-beam is activated the dipped beam is disabled until you switch back from full-beam.

As far as I was aware, it is illegal to use foglights when there is no fog?

Ah yes...I've made a mistake...very sorry...I was trying to describe low beam...I went back to the website I bought my bulbs from and realised I'd got my names all mixed up - sorry about disagreeing there...not intentional, just not got a very good memory! So I'm wanting to know if I can change the system to allow main beam/low beam and fogs to be on - fogs only as they light the side of the singletrack road up and I can see the edge more clearly - I'm driving at around 25mph max so this isn't so I can look cool in front of other people (in fact I'd find it rather sad having all 3 lights on just to make myself look cool!)...

Cool...but does anyone know if it can be changed? Irrespective of what it's called...I'm wanting to know if the setting can be change. Is it possible to connect to the Body Compuer software? If so, how? I'm guessing it's a bodyshop/garage job...

It is illegal to drive with fogs/spots on when there is no fog...but where I tend to use them, I'm the only car for a fair few miles and unless a body was discovered there, the police won't be around...I don't use them anywhere else i.e. only on a singletrack road (with grass up the middle) in the middle of nowhere with visibilty of oncoming cars very good - just not good visibility of the actual road undulations. oncoming car visibility is great as car lights show up on a near pitch black background from a few miles off.

I'm just wanting to know if it can be changed...happy to keep discussing the rights and wrongs, but is it possible to get my original question answered please?

Cheers.

Something I only noticed this morning, which could explain why I don't have the black spot. When I go from dipped to main beam, both lights stay on.

So, I have 2 headlight options:
  1. Dipped beam
  2. Dipped and main together
I also discovered that if i switch the fogs on when I have selected the dip/main combination, the dipped bulb goes off leaving main beam and the fogs on.

Every day is a learning day.

No, unless Fiat themselves write a change in the software code, or change the hardware in the Body Computer.

You could try bridging wires, but the Body Computer would notice the 'short-circuit' and cut the power to those circuits altogether. ;)

i think its no legal to have fogs come on when full beam is on

its not illegal, just a fiat thing........

my freelander has fogs and also driving lights fitted and i can have my dipped, main, sides, fogs and driving lamps on at the same time if i want too(cant do the battery any good)......
