Does the tjet 150 sport engine use any sort of variator?

Like the 1.8 stilo and 2.4 stilo engines?

How many miles has your one done then Big Black Stilo. I had to replace the variator on my old 2.0 TwinSpark GTV at 28,000 miles.

14k. just wondering if a buggered variator would cause this

variator in the old gtv made an old diesel noise on startup, that was the main symptom, don't remember it doing much else once the oil had got into it, based on your description I would say not.

It will only have a variator if it as some sort of vvt ?? its simple do the 1.4 tjets have variable valve timing ?

No, the T-Jet does not have variable valve timing. Only the 1.4 16v Starjet does.

well its going in on tuesday

well its been in and the garage are none the wiser. these fellas seem ok though as they can hear the noise its making and dont think im mad like the other dealer.

They had the car all day and could hear it in the same conditions i can. They have had it to bits checking the usual and everything is fine... well fine as in what they checked is fine which is the usual suspects - auxilleries and pulluys.

The head tech does have some supicions and has sent a report to Fiat asking where to look next or what may need replacing, and will call me when he gets a reply, but it aint something he has come across before and neither had anyone else there.
