Hi all,

Just purchased my first Fiat - 1.9 Multijet 150 Sport.

Was wondering a couple of things about diesels, as I've never had one before.

I understand that I shouldn't mix the diesel if possible, therefore best to run the fuel down to min before refueling.

1. Should I also use the same type (brand) of diesel - i.e Shell, BP, Store Diesel ?

2. Do people notice a difference between the different brands with regard to fuel efficiency / noise / performance etc ?

3. Has anyone tried Shell V-Power ? Would anyone recommend running a tank of this once in a while to clean the injectors ?

Many thanks

Don't run it down to empty. You can mix different brands of fuel. I stick to Shell ordinary Diesel as I have read that store Diesels are not the best.

Make sure you drive the car reasonably hard, don't be afraid to use the revs (once run in) and don't labour the engine (chug along in too low a gear all the time) as it needs to get good and hot regularly to keep the exhaust filters working correctly. Check the engine oil level regularly for the first year or so, after that it won't use much at all.

Enjoy it (y)

What he says! Don't be afraid to use the revs while you're running it in too - just don't plant your foot, build the revs upto 4/4.5k with maybe 70% throttle.

I like to give mine a run on Vpower diesel every now and then. Usually during a week when I can run it reasonably hard over a good distance.

I accidently deleted my whole post as I thought you had posted in the wrong section, and added a mention of this, then I tried to retract this sentence when I saw your post was in the Bravo section after all, and cleared the lot

Never mind.

What I said above
And what he said.

Thanks guys

The car isn't brand new. It's just over a year old with 17,000 on the clock.

I assume that the engine will be well run in by now.

I'll keep an eye on the oil.

Any other tips ?

Hello Hibee1975, welcome to the Multijet fraternity!

Your car wont thank you or show displeasure whatever fuel you put in or when, just re-fuel when you need to. Personally I avoid Supermarket fuels and favour Shell but never their expensive stuff, marketting hype IMO.

My MJet has now done 48,000 miles no engine issues, just keep it serviced regularly with good quality oil and filter. Dont plod it along, wind it up from time to time, diesels dont like constant short town stop/start journeys, the EGR may complain. (y)

Same as what other people already saids, there are no problem to mixed different brands of diesels, My 150 Mjet is my third oil burner and previously owned a Rover 220sdi and Stilo 115JTD and never have problem by mixing different brands of diesels.
Anyway, dont waste your money on shell V-power thinging, I've find no different what so ever, but on the other hand, I do get extra 2-3mpg by using the BP expensive stuff (forgot what they called, sorry~~) but I dont think the extra you paid worth the extra mpg though.

Hi Ffoxy.

I've just bought a 1.9 multijet. They call it a Ritmo here in Australia because "Bravo" was taken by Mazda. I'm thinking of doing my own oil change but haven't been able to spot the oil filter fro the top of the engine bay. Do you know where I'd find it?
