Technical EGR valves, has yours failed?

I've got an 8v 1.9 diesel Bravo. The 1st time the EGR valve went on it was just before xmas and the job cost me over £200 I think. It went again about 6 wks ago and was replaced by the dealer F.O.C. as the part was apparently under warranty.
Blow me if today it seems it's gone again. It's my wife's car but I happenned to be using it today. I first noticed there was a lack of umfff in 3rd & 4th gear around town this morning, then 1st & 2nd gears got worrying when pulling away from junctions.
Considering I'd been driving a leased new Kia Ceed 1.5 diesel yesterday (which went rather nicely back from Brum), my wife's car drove like a 1.0ltr!!
Then the problem seemed to clear itself. There were no warning lights to start with but this afternoon symptoms restarted and then I got the amber warning light and the 'check engine' message. The car goes back in tomorrow to the dealer; watch this space!
I should add that our car is an 08 plate with under 40k on the clock. Admittedly it mainly does town driving but they dont warn you about the problems with this valve when you buy them do they?

You may as well look into blanking the EGR valve off. Plenty of kits around for it as town driving will just keep clogging it up. They don't warn you because it would put some people off buying the car and most of, if not all, modern diesels have them fitted. Just be sure to take it for a good long blast down a motorway every now and then to give it a clear out.

This is an interesting read all be it quickly skimmed over. I was wondering if this was the same issue on the 165 engine? I am going for a remap with DPF removal which also deletes the EGR so wil this solves or prevent any future issues?

I do not remember where but I am sure that I saw an article about blanking EGR and putting 33 ohm 10watts resistor as a fake to make ECU believe thar EGR is still there....

I've got a Stilo Multiwagon with a 1.9 JTD. It had the EGR (badly) blanked when I got it, but I decided to take it a step further. I completely removed the egr, the heat exchanger and all the bracketry and pipework to boot! Had to do a little coolant re-routing but all is fine. No ecu errors, no worries about future egr issues, saved over a Kg in useless weight, made some space in the engine bay and it just sailed through its MOT. I'm also regularly getting 60+ mpg according to the onboard computer. What a happy story!

Mine wasn't closing so I blanked mine until I decided what to do. After 20miles the engine management light came on. It drove better than ever with it blanked though. Reason for engine management was because the MAP sensor knows that not the correct amount of air is entering the inlet manifold. Would have cost me £250 for the remap so the engine doesn't try to use or or you can take off and clean. The vavle was really stiff on mine. I took apart, forced the vavle open fully and sprayed with carb cleaner and kept working the piston until clean and moving smoothly. No trouble since.

Unfortunately with the JTDm engines you cant do this anymore. Its all controlled by the ECU now so if you remove or blank it off the ECU has a hissy fit :*(
