Having an argument with my local garage about my gearbox which feels like it is rubbing/grinding when I change gear so I need some feedback from other owners!

When you change gear is it a smooth motion or do you feel like you have to force the gear stick into position? Do you feel any rubbing/grinding when you do it? Any noises at all?

Thanks for any help you can give!

The garage is trying to tell me that its normal :bang:, but i would expect the gear change on a brand new car to be smooth and pretty much silent!

No I wouldnt expect it to be normal for a new car's gearbox to be crunchy when changing gears to the point I have to force it into gear! from what i remember of the t-jet and the m-jet I test drove they werent like that at all!

The garage are going to be calling me back once one of the mechanics checks some e-tech thing or something! So if I havent heard from them by tomorrow afternoon I'll be calling them!

I'm concerned it could be the buckled flywheel issue that someone on here had a problem with. One of the mechanics has the same car and said his is much the same when cold but it clears up once it has heated up a bit, but mine always seems to have a problem although it does ease a little once its warmed up.

What does everyone elses feel like?

I think that might be what the guy was doing! I'm expecting to have to take it back into them at some point!

I might see if they have a Sport in stock that I can have a shot in to see if its the same, just so I'll know if its me thats in the wrong!

Ive got the 150 tjet.

more to the point im the guy with the buckled fly wheel!

More to the point still im the guy who had a buggered gear box n all lol.

Glad to say its fixed now although I will say my new gear box was crunchy and hard to place into gear. Stuck with it and added a few thousand miles and it glides in a dream now.

That was only after I objected to be ing told that it was normal for it to be doing it!

I'm not making a complaint at the moment...other than that they had the car for 5 days, told me the gearbox was fine and THEN asked me to take someone out in it! ;)

The original post was asking fellow Sport 150 owners how their gearbox behaved just so that I know! So can anyone enlighten me?

if its normal....but you dont know what normal is as you are asking others...then i'm confused:confused:

Anyhow what mileage is on the car? Has this fault just started? Is it like this in all gears or just certain ones? How does the clutch feel?

I havent said its normal! The garage are trying to tell me that its normal and they cant find a fault! But as I have said, I wouldnt expect a crunching sound and sensation when putting a new car into gear to be normal!

Its done about 4000 miles but has been doing it since new in May. This was the first break in my schedule that I could get it booked in, and I was hoping that it would possibly go away once a few miles was on it. Its pretty much the same in all gears, but probably more so in 1st and 2nd. And the clutch seems fine, no problems with it at all!

Thanks for the feedback CaptainChaos, I appreciate it! What was your gearbox like though when it had the buckled flywheel problem?

the same thing is happening with my bravo too, but not that often...... only with first , and back gear (gearbox is to damn harsh so its almoust normal this could be happening)..... and my windows from time to time go crazy(opening/closing by their own) .... its fiat, right? :) but i could live with that

Often the only way to find a fault is to strip the gearbox down for inspection however these 6sp boxes dont get stripped down. If a fault is 100% confirmed then its replaced. This however cannot be done without prior written authority.

I bought mine back in October and since then the gears haven't made any crunch noises when cold or hot, and the gears go in place without any effort.

bought mine in March - smooth gears... However when changing gears i often hear a "clunk" noise.... went to the dealer and his mechanic agreed that the "clunk" was a bit loud for a brand new car... we checked it on another sport they had ...same clunk sound... so i guess THATs normal :D ....otherwise smooth changes.

Best regards

MR

Well got the car back after having it checked over...and the guy agrees that the gear change is horrid in 2nd and 3rd gear once it has heated up.

So a new gearbox has been ordered from Italy (at a cost of £2500!!) and it'll be going in to get it fitted in a week or two!

I'm just glad that someone actually agreed with me and it wasnt all in my head! :D
