Hi,
I test drove a T-jet 150 today. I was really impressed with the car, to say the least ! I come from a Renault Megane 1.6/115bhp and there is a huge difference in everything.
The exterior as you all know is great. But I was really impressed by the interior. Really good build quality feel, and the design of the dashboard as well as the doors and the red/black upholstery is just great. Very good looking sport seats also. The driving position was ideal for me, I am 5'7". The interior design is better than a Golf or Focus, but I like the dashboard material more in a Golf (the rubberized plastic). The Bravo has very good materials too, and it feels very solid.
Then the next thing which amazed me was the sound of the engine. It was at just the right level, and just the right tone. When you accelerate the sound is just amazing. I can compare it with the note of the BMW 330i I drove a few months ago. The same type of engine note and the same levels.
The power was not delivered in a linear fashion but it is normal for a turbo engine. However, when you get past 3500RPM it pulls really hard until 6000 (where it drops abruptly), and did I mention the engine note ?
The 6-speed gearbox was amazing, better than anything I have driven until now and this includes the 2006 330i.
The steering was a bit light but I loved it The clutch was also light and I didnt have any problem with the biting point which for me was perfectly ok.
The suspension was stiff but this didn't seem to affect the ride quality very much. The front-end grip is very good with the 17" tyres.
Once I reached 90mph in a few seconds and it felt like I was doing 50. Very good sound insulation of the road noise but the engine note is present at just the right level, not very high but enough to impress your passengers
Everything is efortless in driving this car. Powerful engine, light steering (which I personally like), light cluch, precise and light gear changing.
And did I mention the feeling that whoever buys a Golf or Focus over this is being ripped off ? At the price of the T-Jet Sport you can only get a boring 1.6FSI Golf with almost no optional extras.
In two days from now I will test drive a Bravo MultiJet 150 Sport, I will tell you my opinions after this
