General The New Fiat Bravo. My review

Stuart...................thank you:)

NumanR,Danny & myself already raved about the car but as our work is all connected with this car I wouldn't blame anyone to say/think "well yeah they would say that"..........but as you quite rightly say Fiat have turned a big corner here & Fiat themselves know it(y)

So Stuart, would you be so kind as to buy one and let me have that cracker of a 127 Sport you're restoring? :D

Thought not. :(

Ho hum, I really need to get my backside in gear and get a test drive.

P.S. Looks to be a fair amount of space to the left of the clutch. ;)

Sounds great Stuart, after reading your review I definately need to give this beast a test drive :D

Mervyn Stewart Fiat/Alfa

They're the lovely people who originally sold my HGT back in '99 (y)

Have you got any idea how I would go about tracing the history of the car? I dont know much about the car's history before it was bought over to England in 2002.

The interior is spot on, very modern, love the ergonomics of it (y)

Looks very nice and i have to say very tempted but will hold fire until, like any new car at launch the probable small niggles have been ironed out.

How mcuh was the model you tested?

The car I had out was £14,250. Sport TJet 150.

I genuinely believe this car is that good.

And Yes Orzric, the 127 might come up for sale at some point depending on how good the New 500 is ;) So make me an offer. I have 4 others so far
Because we have bought so many cars off M Stewarts, we had a bit of insight a few weeks ago as to how much the Bravo was going to be and once we did our sums we realised we couldn't stretch to one at this time and bought an Alfa 156 for my Wife last week, otherwise just like the Grande Punto we had, we would have had the first Bravo to be registered in N.I, at least 2 weeks before it was released. Not to be this time unfortunately.

Si I wouldn't have a clue as to were you would go to track down your old car. A friendly Policeman might be able to help ;)

But there will be a break/estate and a people carrier:) :), much more important.

I can live forever without a three door

I'm not at all surprised chap. Been following the rest regularly and would love to own it (my first car too) but I could never make you an offer as I would hate to insult you. No way i could afford it anyway and iiwy I would never let it go for anything short of £5k. (and no, I'm not offering £5k, lol!!)

Hello

I am a new member to the forum.

I just wanted to say how fabulous the new Fiat Bravo looks. It is easily the best looking car in the class. The interior is a lovely place to be and the quality of plastics used is excellent.

I have never owned a Fiat before but I will be organising a test drive as soon as possible.

I have seen a poll on this forum and the majority of the respondents so far say that they would not be interested in it.

Am I missing something? Fiat are on to a winner as stated in previous post and excellent test drive review.

Why do some Fiat aficionados not like it?

Sorry Stuart, I should have worded it better. I bought the car earlier this year from a chap in Worcester. The previous owners had it since 2002 which appears to be when it was bought here from N.I.

What it is that I am after is the history of the car pre 2002 while it was still in N.I.

The only thing I know is that its on N.I plates with the Mervyn Stewart logo on them.

I know its a long shot but I figured (as pointed out to me by Serin) that you've had a lot of dealings with them and you might know a way of tracing its history while it was over there.

Anyway I've gone miles off topic now but if you've got any info that might help me please PM me. Cheers :)

Anyway back on topic.... I'm planning on paying my local Fiat dealer a visit this weekend to see if they've got a TJet in that I can take a look around (maybe even a test drive).

As for interior space etc, I sat in the one at Brooklands and it felt nice and spacious (but then again I'm only 5'10"). The only thing that I wasn't keen with about the driving position is how high the seat sits, even on the lowest setting it felt high to me but that seems to be the same with all new cars these days. There is something to be said about lowering yourself into the drivers seat of a nice sporty car, rather than climbing up onto what feels like a perched seat.

Other than that one slight niggle to me I really like the new Bravo.

I will give a better opinion if and when I test drive one.

To be honest i don't really like it but i'm in love with my old Bravo and not big on change :p

Though i agree a 3 door would have been a better starting point for Fiat. I couldn't stand 3 doors a few years ago but couldn't be without it now, when i had a 4 door the kids kept messing with the windows and door handles :D

I think you may find that Formula 1 cars and other racing cars right down to stock-hatches have harsh suspension. It's the way of producing very good handling without resorting to using computers to control the suspension. My Tipo has it, as does the Bravo JTD. Much harsher than comparable cars but most importantly they're a league ahead on the twisty roads.

As the director of Fiat UK said, Fiat owners want a car that is fun to drive. Going slow and smooth around corners isn't nearly as fun as having a decent car that enjoys being thrown around.
