Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

Would this be the same procedure for the 2.0 M-jet?

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

1-2 days before removing: soak them with penetrating oil, like WD-40 or something.
Prior to Removing: blow debris away with compressed air, and do that again, after a few twists of the plug.( you don't want dirt to fall in the engine, while the plug is out...!)

Hi @mikey1786, your best bet would be to have a look in the 500 section as someone may have already done it on the 1.3 engine.

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

Looking for info on changing GLOW PLUGS on a 2008 brava 1.9 ? They appear to be at the front of the engine but are all linked together and don't appear to be that easy to get out ??

Also looking for info on location of air and oil filters, does a haynes manual or similar exist fo this car ??

Any help gratefully received .

Thanks

John

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

Was you successful in changing your glow plugs? Because I 'am just looking into this at present as mine may need changing on a 1.9 Bravo not Brava though, as glow plug warning light is mostly on all the time!

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

I removed the cover and sprayed the plugs and leads with WD40 however I cannot pop the glo plug leads off. They rotate, but each one will not pull off. How much force is required to pull these off. I phoned the dealers they quoted 90 for the glo plugs and an additional 130 for fitting and an additional 90 for a diagnostic check. A video would be beneficial of the procedure. I even purchased the 9mm deep socket but cant get the leads off I have tried all 4 and don't want to cause damage by using excess force. The car starts first time every time and the "check glo plugs" warning light only comes on when the engine is cold and then goes off after 10 seconds. Used the voltage test on the plugs in situ and they did not display any voltage drop. Which indicates they are OK.

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

Anyone knows if the black box shown on the 1st post, 1st picture is the main glow plug unit? My 4 glow plugs and their heating unit need to be changed and they quoted 450pounds.

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

"check glowplugs" warning has started to show up on my moms Bravo 1.6 diesel. Thought I would give it a go and replace them myself. Hopefully it's just the plugs and not the glowplug box.
But just to make sure - the plugs are the red ones showing in this picture, right? looks like they're quite easy to reach.

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

So, I have boughta set of bosch glow plugs, but I haven't tried to remove the old ones yet. Im someone who likes to fix as much as possible myself, but Im a bit hesitated about this one. Seems there's a "high risk" that the tip of the plug will brake off and get stuck in the cylinder block. If that happens, your only option might be to actually remove the cylinder head - something I rather not get myself into!
According to this video-guide by NGK, you are suppose to do this while the engine is WARM - not cold, as stated by the tread starter.

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

Just don't use force, be patient, and you will get them out.
Use this grease on your new plugs:

Re: Changing the Glow Plugs

When the old plugs are stuck because of coal/carbon build up on the tread, use some carburetor spray to disolve this dirt/gunk.
