the bravo 1.4sx (sorry to anyone who's not bravo orientated but you might be able to help) is emitting a coarse growling or grumbling noise around 3500 revs when in any gear. I can get rid of the noise by pushing through to around 3800 or dropping below 3400. It doesn't make the noise when not in gear.
Any thoughts?

probably a misbalanced camshaft or worn cam bearing causing vibration. since its a 1.4 i'd think its the camshaft, they tend to wear quickly.

thanks for the reply. Sounds like it may be costly, and a bit too technical for me to do myself with the haynes manual. I guess I need to get it to somone to look at before it causes more damage?? My missus says it's been like this for a while now. I've been driving it for the last two or three weeks.

you could just ignore it :)
if you have a garage you can trust then why not get thier opinion,
it is usually free for an opinion and its much easier to diagnose a problem if you can see the car.
