Hi all,

Got in car today to find considerable size like nestling happily in passenger footwell!!(n)

Must be just wet feet from outside (lots of snow in Wales last week) thinks I, but it doesnt dry up in any hurry:confused:

Put lots of newspaper down to soak it up, but it didnt feel like water, more sort of oily......

Now I am thinking has the aircon gone and leaked itself everywhere? Where can I check the fluid level?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!:D

hmm.. one of my mates has this prob... the greasey feeling is probably just carpet residue. and the leak is probably either under the window or the gromets where your adio goes into the car .

to sort it there are a few drainage holes unted the car, use a plastic knife of something palstic and thin and undlock the holes... water should drain out easily then ;)

Hi, just read another thread and thought I would go out and try the aircon system test, and I does indeed display "error" on the dash.:(

More specifically, first it brings up what looks like Error 1 and another sort of half a 1 next to it (?) and then it changes to Error 00

So it looks like me aircon has thrown a dickie. Would that error mean it has shut itself down to stop damage, and it just needs refilling, or is there another problem that is more sinister?:(

Again, any assistance greatly appreciated.

the error that looks like a 1 with half a 1 next to it is simply telling you that you have successfully done the fault diagnosis for the climate control. the 1 is actually a 'l' and the half is actrually an 'i'. there should be a C before it. this spells "Cli", for climate control. after that you get told the actual error, in your case error 00. this is the only error code. i cant remember what error 00 is off the top of my head, but i think it had something to do with the 3 way switch, or maybe it meant no errors, i cant remember any more, sorry.

however i can be sure that the aircon problem has nothing to do with the wet patch. the aircon is filled with freon, which becomes a gas once depressurised. so an aircon leak could not cause a puddle. the puddle of water can only be from 2 possible places- a leak allowing rain to get in (sunroof or windscreen), or a leak in the heater matrix allowing coolant to leak behind the dash. since the water seemed oily i would think it is possibly coolant. check your coolant level, if it has dropped you know the heater matrix has leaked. also if hot air no longer comes out the air vents it suggests the heater matrix has leaked, same if the car now overheats (keep close eye on temp gauge). replacing the heater matrix requires the dash to be removed. not a nice job at all. so fingers crossed it isnt the problem.

Cheers Jug.

Checked the coolant level, and its on min, but it didnt take a great dealer to fill her up, so I dont think it was that, as the puddle was quite considerable.

You are of course right with the aircon, I didnt think of that!!

So maybe I have a leak in the floor??? thats not good at all!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

in that case it sounds like a sunroof leak, its a very very common fault. fixing it can be a real struggle, i used a load of black putty around my sunroof chassis. its almost perfect now, although when i break hard in very heavy rain i sometimes get a single drip. no matter what i try it wont go away.

has the car been pakred at an angle, for example on a curb, and the lower side (with wheels on the road) is also the side where the water collected? that usually means the leak is the sunroof, and the water runs down the A pillar to collect in the footwell. the main concern is that this water can damage electrics on its way to the footwell.

the aerial is also a common cause of leaks, but it couldnt leak enough to cause puddles unless it was very loose and the rain was very heavy. i doubt it could be that.

the next most likely option is the drainage holes are blocked with leaves. when this happens any overflow of water will go behind the firewall and enter the footwells. a hosepipe is good for unblocking the drainage holes. by drainage holes i mean the ones under the windscreen. its a common enough problem that there's a few threads explaining how to clear them, i seem to remember a thread in the marea section with pics. and i think fiatboo may even have a guide

Might not work for you, but I had same problem. Sprayed round the ariel with WD40, never happened again.

Worth a try.

Is it still drivable? Have you tried?

If it is oily, it could also be brake fluid, if your brakes are fine, don't worry, but if not check your brake levels. This is only on the premise that the servo is in the same area as on a cento, if not, completely ignore this suggestion. It is an extreme idea to try and help you though, not a likely one ;)

Hello, i had exactly the same problem, the water was 'greasy' and wouldnt dry. I took my bravo to the garage and they noticed the top of the door was slightly pulled out so he pushed it back in and it was done :) Took it to a valeting place and hey sucked all the water up. Although the leak did come back slightly, i bought 2 packets of radiator cement and it has been perfect since :slayer: (touching wood!!)
