I have a Fiat Bravo 1.4 sx and have been having problems with it starting when hot the engine just wont turn over but will when the engines cold,i've had a new starter motor, new camshaft, oil spray bar etc and have just been told by the garage the problem is a blocked canal in the engine block and theres no oil getting to the camshaft and the engine is partially seizing when its hot,has anyone had this problem before, the garage recomend i get a new engine but surely theres a fix?I was thinking of engine flush will this clear the block??If i cant find a solution im afraid it may be time for the motor to visit the scrap yard in the sky, fingers crossed
Any help would be much appreciated

Apparently your particular engine (1.4) is prone to problems. When the engine is running is there any knocking etc?

Problems normally associated with hot start problems are electrical.
If the engine is struggling to turn at all then my first instincts would be a poor earth strap to the engine or the earth to the battery. A poor electrical connector to the starter from the battery.

If the engine is actually spinning over then i'd have said a lambda sensor.

Engine runs fine until it heats up and its a bit hesitant but no knocking noise at all.Its just like a flat battery when i try to start it when hot,but the engine wont turn at all,ive been reassured by the garage its an oil blockage in the engine block and no oil is getting to the oil spray bar to lubricate the cams,if only there was a product out there that dissolves blockages.
im gonna try and flush the engine oil out a few times see if i cant clear the block

problems starting only when hot are almost always due to a faulty lambda sensor.

if the head was seizing you would know about it, trying to start would make the starter motor turn very slowly and it would make a nasty noise. once you hear that noise you never forget it. if your starter motor turns at full speed and there is no nasty noise then it cant be the problem suggested by the garage.

When the car is hot the engine wont turn over at all as if theres no power in the battery to turn the starter and when you turn the key the lights on the dash go dim just like a flat battery.Cant be the battery as i tried a brand new one and still does the same problem. It has me baffled shame i couldn't sort it as the motor is a belter and the engine has only covered 85k.

oh the starter motor turns slowly!! in that case its almost certainly a problem with the main earth strap. when hot the resistance increases which reduced the current. a quick test with a mumtimeter to measure resistance from the engine to the chassis wil confirm this. if the resistace if much higher when hot, it means there is an earthing problem. the most common cause of this is a leaking slave cylinder on the gearbox, allowing brake fluid to seriously corrode and rot the earth strap.

It turns slowly then doesn't turn over at all till it cools down, how do i test the voltage?Forgive me if i sound dumb

get a multimeter, set it to resistance (ohms), touch one terminal on the car's chassis, and the other terminal on the engine. do this when cold. then do it again next time the engine wont start. if there is a noticable difference in the 2 results you can be certain that the earthing is the problem.

i would also visually inspect the main earth strap to see if it looks corroded or damages, and check that it is secure at both ends.
