hi all,

first post,

i bought one of my fave cars yesterday a bravo 1.4 sx 12 valve and i have noticed the injector warning light keeps coming on,

the cam belt had snapped and the car has had the engine rebuilt if this makes any difference apart from this it runs perfect,

any help would be appreciated,,

i saw a few other posts about this too. basically it the concensus is that the injector is probably not working properly. i think most epople check the HT leads and the sparks and they are fine (if the injectors ahve been changed then the HT lead and the Sparks should too iirc.)

on a 1.4 its single point injection, and generally the injector is pretty bullet proof.

the injection system fault light should be thought of as the engine management light. when the light comes on it is almost always because the ecu has received an out of range (or no) signal from a sensor. there can be many possible causes, a diagnostic check is probably your best bet. it will hopefully identify the problem sensor, although just becasue a sensor returns an out of range value it doesn not mean the sensor is at fault. for example when the light comes on and there is no noticable loss of performance it is often due to the lambda sensor, however this could be due to a faulty lamdba sensor or it could also be due to bad spark plugs and leads meaning unburnt fuel enters the exhaust gasses and this causes the lamda to return an out of range value.

in your particular case i would think it could simply be a dirty or badly fittted connector on a sensor after the engine had so much recent work. putting things back together after some work is often an easy way for human error to create faults like this. but without knowing if the problem existed before it is impossible to say, i'm only playing the odds with a guess. a diagnostic check is needed to find out.

I always wondered how does a 4 cylinder engine have 12 valves? That would be 3 valves per cylinder, just seams weired to me?!

yes it is weird! usually you would expect to find two intake valves and one exhaust valve for each cylinder. i've never seen or heard of it even been the other way round. and you would expect the intake valve diameter to be slightly smaller than the exhaust, but only slightly (6mm for example). very weird and i still dont really see the advanatge or any good reason to do it, but there must be a reason.

The designer was drunk, forgot the extra 4 valves. Finally getting round to it with the new 1.4 16v.

And was high this time so decided to add a few turbo's tooo...... :D
