if you did not use cam locks, your valve timing is out,as the pulley moves by about one and a half teeth.you need to check timing with cam lock tools........................

i have the cam locking tools for the 1.8 but they dont hold it super tight.
what you thinking?? undo the cam bolts and try turning the pullies with the little bit of play they have?? i marked up the belt and the pullys so i know there correct. i thought it wouldnt of run if they were out atall.

hummm sight problam, think i have bent some valves im not sure how many but i know that there is no compression on cylinder 1.
looking like the end of the bravo if i cant get my mate of a mechanic to do it on the cheep as i have had enough of it completly
how much have people paid to have valves replaced??
cheers

it costs as much as it would if you had head gasket failure. the extra work and cost required to replace a few valves isn't much at all, it will be more than paid for by not needing to skim the head. £150-200 is what i would expect depending on the number of valves.

to bend valves you need to get the timing out by a fair amount, certainly more than a couple of teeth. however if the loss of compression was only due to the timing been out it would occur on all cylinders, a loss on only 1 cylinder suggests valve damage. but how did you manage to do that?

you could sell the car the way it is, if it runs ok who would ever know. a conscience can be an expensive thing.
