I've been looking around for info on the Fiat Brava an this site seems to be a source of knowledge on all things Fiat, so I wonder if any of you could help me?

I bought a Y reg Brava SX about 6 weeks ago for my wife. It's always started first time but has never sounded healthy in doing so. The last couple of days it's not turned over at all and I've had to jump start it. I'm pretty sure that all it needs is a new battery, but I am concerned that disconnecting the battery will screw up the engine management system. Do you have any tips or advice?

I'd be very grateful for your help.

Cheers:)

My battery went totally dead over the weekend (just as I was off to see parents) which I guess is kind of the same thing. Yes, it did reset the management system, so was a bit weird to drive at first (but boy did it GO) then after the first few miles it settled down again. The only thing to watch is the radio code (alledgedly, mine didn't ask for one, just reset itself and searched for stations again).

Is it drawing any power from the unit after being charged? That's when it needs a nnew batt.

thanks.
The car actually answered my question as the battery went totally dead before i had a chance to remove it. Luckily, it did not seem to affect it at all, apart from me having to study the handbook to find out how to reset the clock!

I agree dirt that was my main problem as well! Done now though and batt is very happy again, back to full charge.

What's the largest sized battery that will fit? I mean in physical dimensions?

I basically want to get the largest Bosch Silver I can.

Thanks,

Just when i thought i'd solved the problem it's come back again;
This morning the clock was reset and the battery completely dead, despite being less than a month old.
Has anyone else experienced this???

One thing that springs to my mind is that the car just had a Sony multi disc CD player fitted. i'm wondering if this is somehow drainign the battery without me realising????

Hi.

I'm no mechanic, but since your battery is only a month old, logic tells me that either:

1. Something is draining it, or
2. The battery is not actually being charged (dodgy alternator?)

hi dirt if you get volt meter connect red wire to + side on battery
black wire to - on battery while car is running on the scale it should read 14.5 volts . if not possible fault with the alternater but check the wire connctions also and the belt tension
