hallo fellas how was christmas? ok i have just noticed that my temparature gauge has started playing up yesterday as i had driven the car for 30minutes and i could see it was playing up as i pressed the accelarator it was actually moving up same time with the rev gauge? but today it was all fine it stopped playin up.could this be a faulty connection as it seemed to respond as i pressed the accelerator? and yes one other thing i have a screeching sound from, ithink the starter motor or maybe altenator as i start the car in cold morning what could this be?please help.thanks

the noise is usually due to a loose auxilliary belt, although it can also be due to a damp belt (such as after heavy rain or a couple of days without using it). on the 1.8 the tensioner should not be able to allow the belt to come loose. check the tension and condition of the auxilliary belt, if in doubt replace it (very cheap and only requires a spanner to turn the tensioner)

the temperature gauge issue is common, and thankfully there is a nice guide from fiatboo to help you fix it. havent got the link handy but a quick search of the bravo/a section should find it.
