Thanks for looking at this...

I'm not great with engines thats why i'm asking this.

When i'm slowly accelarating i start to hear a strange almost buzzing sound from me engine, it sounds fine with the window up but with the window down its obvious that i can hear it. from what i've noticed it only seems to buzz between 2000 and 3000rpm..

Any ideas what it could be????

Thanks!!

get someone to rev the car while you stick a screwdriver inbetween the cat and its heatshield, that the most common cause. if that is the problem i would rip the heat shield off, they usually have 4 spot welds holding them on so its easy to get them off, and no it wont harm the car, the heat shield is only there to stop you setting fire to grass if you park over it with a hot cat. if the noise isnt the cat's heat shield it could be one of the heat shields inbetween the chassis and exhaust, in that case secure the rattling heat shield in place.

I have the exact same problem although I think I've pinpointed mine down to the downpipe, I got a cheap patternpart copy and its resonated inside the flexi-part ever since. A mate of mine (Beeson100) covered his flexipart in something although can't remember what. it muffled it quite well :)

Hope that helps.

ive got exactly the same aswell with Patch, and as Dan says, if the front pipe has been replaced with a cheapy, or its still the original front pipe but taken a bit of a battering it could well be this, it gets right on my berves personally, as with that and the back box join blowing she sounds even more ropey than normal... along with the gear box ratteling / knocking (again... could i hit double figures soon... ) and ticking and generally noisey engine :(

Dan, didnt Beeson use something like the crappy foil airfeed stuff you can get at halfordsetc.. looks like a tin foil tube or similar, he just unravelled it and wrapped it iirc fella

I would advise strongly against that andy, I tried some on mine (using an old air intake pipe that you get with airfilters. it caught fire!

I can't remember to be honest, I'll ask him at the weekend :)

oooh, at leat i wont need to drive like a bat out of hell to set the roads on fire i guess...

as for the asbestos, i dont know, but hey if it works it works... although im still probably going to go for a supersprint mani instead once the insurance claim comes through, plus get the rest sorted n then dont have to worry (dont need to worry about insurance going up as its all covered already aswell )

let me know the result though fella

I had a look under the car yesterday and found that the shield has a hole in. and the wire meshing has taken abit of a beating by the looks of it. cant see how i could get it off to replace it.. any ideas??

you have to replace the whole downpipe to replace the flexijoint, its not a seperate part. the down pipe bolts on to the manifold and cat easily enough, but dont expect the bolts to come out easily. i had to grind a couple off the cat because they were rotten and rounded off. just getting access to the bolts holding it onto the manifold is hard, i suggest a very long extension bar on a 1/2" drive ratchet.
