im guessing you have the 1.4?

its not easy to swap the clocks over so you can get a rev counter as you dont have the wireing in the car i believe... plus the mileage would need to be adjusted for you

you could use the wires from the crankshaft position sensor to work the rev counter, routing the wires from the sensor to behind the rev counter. i did this on an escort once and it worked fine, however when i did it on a corsa i found the revs read about half of what they should, so best of luck if you try it.

adjusting the milage is easy enough if you've handy with a pin.

your petrol light is probably remaining on because of a fault at the fuel gauge sender unit. that can be accessed from the boot, if you remove the round plastic cover you will see the petrol tank and the pump and sender unit. you could try replacing the sender unit, consult a haynes.

Hello yes i have a 1.4 i thought the wiring would already be there will it not then??? Also for fog lights will the wiring for them already be there???

foglight wires may be there, im not 100% certain. i think it was only the mk2 models that definately had all the wiring, on the mk1s i think the wiring was missing where the switch goes on the dash. you could always wire a different switch where ever you like. i'm pretty sure the wiring harness to connect to the foglights will be there behind the bumper, i dont know where the other end of the wires will be.

how do i know if mines a mk 1 or mk 2??? my brava was 1996 model ??? i might not change dash if wiring is not already going to be there. As for fog lights is it straight forward to fit them How will i know if wiring is there??

yep, 96 means mk1.

fitting foglights is straight forward even if the wiring isnt there.

get a front bumper with the foglights on. when you fit the bumper look for the foglight wiring harness, it should be there. connect both foglights when fitting the bumper.

inside the car you need to replace your switch panel (bit with foglight switches on) for a one that has the front foglight switch (hlx and hgt models). when you fit this new switch panel you need to look for a connector that will allow the front foglight button to work. if this connector is not there you need to make your own wiring. on a 96 model 1.4 i doubt it will be there. you can buy foglight wiring kits that work on any car and any lights, they are very easy to fit, so dont worry you will be able to do it, its just a question of whether or not you'll be able to use the original fiat switch or not.

I think they have got the wiring for the rev counter because the 1.4 SX which I have got comes with the rev counter as standard.

And also it is cheaper for car manufacturers to produce 1 standard loom instead of producing different looms depending on where they are in the model range.

Going back a few years now my dad had a K-Reg 1.4 Tipo and that had got the wiring to work the pump for the rear window squirter. Yet the pump only went the one way. He did not have it long though, he swapped it for an M-Reg Tipo 1.6 SX Libberty because the 1.4 was so basic. May be that might be the wisest option for you to take instead of arsing abouth trying to fit the rev counter

Thats what i noticed aswell i seen 1996cars with rev counter and fogs not sure bout the 1.4s though. How easy is it to remove dash anyways. to see if wiring is there before i go buying a new dash???

Very - the dash centre switch panel comes out via an allen key screw either side (behind the little end bits, these pull off with a flat blade) and the dial unit comes out with a few screws behind the steering wheel and underneath the top bit (if that makes sense?), can't recall if there's a screw for it above the fuses as well. Haynbes has wiring diagrams of what you should have there.
