I had a battery change recently and a similar thing happened to me. I noticed that the backlight and button lights would stay lit with the engine turned off after the change and this persisted for a few days. I then noticed the backlight flickering between bright and dim (I think it was probably the settings for headlights on and off) one lunchtime when driving. After this the light would go off some times when I turned off the ignition and not others, and now it's finally decided to switch off every time.

Another Fiat electrical "feature"?! :)

OK - I visited the local Fiat dealer today having found and removed the relevant fuse (it was very helpful knowing that the central locking was on the same fuse). They put the fuse back in and say the backlight stayed off - they can't find any draw on the battery that shouldn't be there. But I know I wasn't imagining this (again helpful to know from all of you that I'm not going mad) - so I have to either decide to replace the head unit (learning the technical terms now) or just cross my fingers and hope this has gone away. Living in Edinburgh I hardly use the car, maybe once or twice a week for short journeys (which is probably why whatever is draining the battery gets the chance to completely flatten it). If anyone has any advice I'd be glad to hear from you - thanks.

well ive just been disconnecting my bat for the time being when i cant get it to stay off saves going round and locking all the doors lol but im going to get my head unit whipped out then going to take it to a repair shop (non-fiat who was recommended) so will let you all know how that goes

surely the cheapest option would be to remove a headunit from a scrapyard car. that will only cost £10, and the headunit code is easily found using the numerous free programs you can download online.

ooh a button. posh :)

i rarely see a headunit with the slidey thing still attached. they usually drop off after the first year of use.
