:eek: I want to try resetting the ECU on my Brava. I have read that disconnecting the battery for an hour then re-connecting it will cause the ECU to re-set. Is this correct ? Also, if I try this will I need to use a RED key at all for any reason ?

Getting desperate.

Don;t know. Most of time engine starts more so when cold. Once hot will not fire even though we have sparks. Its like no fuel. Could Lambda sensor cause this by making mixture to rich or weak, or could problem with key cause imobiliser to stop engine running ? Yesterday it packed in whilst driving.

Jusy a silly idea but could worn out brake pads send signal to ecu to not let engine start. Front pads are on the limit.

TDC sensor located near the crankshaft pulley! get that replaced and you would be ok. but be careful not to knock the head of the TDC sensor as it is magnetic. if you accidentally knock the new one chances are it will not work too.

no not TPS (throttle position sensor)

it is called the CPS (crankshaft positon sensor)



a faulty lambda would make warm starting difficult, but it should not cause the engine to cut out.

a diagnostic check is usually the best thing to try first.

although my local fiat dealer now charges a standard price of £65 per diagnostic check, which is a fortune for what they do. i could do it myself if they lent me the examiner for 5 mins. anyone fancy ram-raiding a dealer and nicking one for me? i'll pay £375 for one

A 'proper' diagnostic should consist of errors being read(extracted) in ALL modules,parameters monitored to pinpoint fault followed by 'active diagnosis'...customer should be presented with all relevent printouts as evidence of fault(s).
 
i know, but if you have half an idea where the fault is you can save time. i'd love to know why they do a full diagnostic even for an airbag fault? i've waited nearly 2 hours for an airbag system diagnostics check, and when i later checked the car, all the 3 pin connectors had been disturbed. i think its only done so it costs more or so they can try to find other faults to suggest work for. i bet they start to do a quicker check now there's a standard price.
 
You cant guess where customers money is the question,which is why I like to be certain.For airbag diagnostic this takles normally longer as tech is required to use the airbag simulator resistor kit to be 100% certain of fault....airbags & modules are expensive so need to be right or you have a growling customer at the reception desk :(
