Hi all

I have a 98 1.4sx bravo.

A few weeks ago my car was very slugish to start as is the batt was low on power... but I know it wasnt. Then once day it finally wouldnt start at all. I got a jump and the problem actually seemed to get better.

Then last weekend after a short 40 mile drive things got worse, The ignition now makes some wierd ticking noise ( comming from behind the dash) and some times when i try and start it first time it makes a god awful screaching noise...then it starts on the second attempt

Any advice?

Alan

Probably the starter drive pinion is not pulled out while cranking.
-need to remove starter and check flywheel ring gear teeth and starter drive pinion teeth.

speaking of starter problems, i think my solenoid has had it. can't even find the starter, will look at haynes book later. is swapping one over difficult?

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX, what do you want? cupholders? open door warning light? grow up!

guys it was my starter. And instead of trying to fix it my self I had the starter compleatly overhauled by an auto electrician. its not expencive ( 60 euro ) and you get a 6mth warranty. however if you are mechanicaly minded, take out the motor strip it down clean it up and change the bushes ..this will give you a few more months at least.
