HGT skirts - how to fit?

I've just acquired a pair of HGT skirts for my mk2 SX and obviously now need to fit them. From the look of it i've got to drill holes along my sills and rear 1/4 panels as the skirts are clipped in place with some large red plastic plugs. Also, they were fixed along the bottom edge to the sills too, under the car. My car has plastic blanking plugs blocking the holes but when i've removed these plugs there are no captive nuts or anything attached to the sills, are they just fixed in place by these plastic plugs or are they normally bolted to the sill?
I bought the skirts mail order so never got to see how they were attached to the car they came from. If i do have to drill the upper sills and quarter panels, anyone have the measurements of exactly where to drill??

Thanks, Lee

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

I will have a look for you tomorrow uless someone answers before, like these ones in the link. I know the skirt is damaged in the pic but the car was a damage repairable HGT and the pic was taken during my repairs. Can't complain as it only cost 500 with parts and has only 54k on the clock.

To get these to fit you have to modify the front of them to fit a non - HGT because the HGT has wider slightly more flared wheel arches. I bought a set of these thinking they would bolt straight on but they don't. Dont get me wrong they will go on it just takes some trimming. Here is a pic of mine with them on

worth the effort though eh??

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

Thanks Bridges - they're the same skirts so would appreciate any info regarding how they fit or what they're fitted with! Your car looks good, just bought my step-son an SX in the same colour which needs some work too, gave 30 quid for it! the best colour a Bravo comes in I think. I don't suppose you're thinking of getting rid of those alloys by any chance!!??

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

Thanks for your nice comment.
Am afraid they are now on my 20v coupe but they do look nice on the bravo. The Bravo is now on my Coupe wheels which suit it nicely.

Bravo boy is right. The HGt front end is different. It is actually a Marea. The wings are Marea wings and are different. It needed the wider front chassis to fit the lovely 5cylinder 20v.

Will look in the morning.

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

i wouldn't drill anything, a good adhesive will be better. drilled holes will rust, then the skirt will drop off once the rust has weakened it, leaving a very messy car. i've fitted skirts using adhesive more than once with no problems

Chassis isn't any wider apparantly - just the front track is wider to allow enough space to turn the wheels Well that's what I've heard, although something must be wider and I don't think its the lower arms.

Don't forget the bumper too! It's Marea width although not a Marea bumper.. Marea have massive wide mouths, bravo/a have holes where needed.

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

true, the hgt has slightly longer driveshafts (and other differences) which makes the wheels stick out a little bit more, but the chassis is the same.

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

I will check the chassis as am curious, I know the Bravo wings will not fit the HGT so something must be different somewhere
I have sat here a (W reg Brava auto 1.6)
(V reg Marea Weekend 105JTD) (R reg Bravo HGT) and a (R reg coupe 20v)

Re: HGT skirts - how to fit?

the bravo wings will fit the hgt, they are a different size but they still fit, they wont meet the hgt bumper correctly, but you can change that too. thats why its so easy to do an hgt conversion on the front of a bravo, you just replace the wings and bumper, nothing else is needed.

My 5th cylinder and bank account are best of friends since they were introduced through the Diesel pump

Bank account and Tipo are not so happy together

Edit - Really thinking about it the lower arms are the same length and the chassis is the same - what is wider is the sub-frame/engine-mount. Wider track makes for a huge turning circle. 10m for the 105 marea and 11.5m for the 130!
