i have decided to starting saving up for the new bravo. I know that I won't have enough money to buy it, or have a deposit for it by march 2007 if that is when it goes on the market.

but am thinking about by this time next year i hope that i will have enough to put a deposit on one. Am also thinking about working all through the summer of next year to save up even more for the deposit for one and keeping up with the hours am doing at the moment. through out the year.

So how much is a decent deposit on a new car. bearing in mind i am a student.

I think that I would rather save up for a large deposit so that i have less to pay back when i finally get the car. As at this time we don't know how much they will be introduced for on the market.

I am thinking of aiming for about 2 thirds of the asking price for a brand new current model 5 door fiat stilo. so about 8500 for the deposit do you guys think this is a reasonable amount.

you must have a wife and 3 children to buy this one...

nah i want one of the faster ones not one of the kiddie vans. lol.

its going to take me ages to get the money for it though. so i probably would have a wife and kids by the time i am able to afford it.

exactly, and a complete lack of style.

even a stilo is better looking than the new bravo.

and then imagine the reliablity problems it will have, it will be like the GP launch all over again. if you really must have an ugly grandad car i'd wait 3 years then get a nearly new one with all the faults fixed under warranty. if you dont you'll lose thousands, have to put up with contant warranty repairs, and learn why dealers are so hated.

students can have money. if they do loads and loads of hours at work a week.
the more hours i do a week the more money i get

yeah but at student wages the more hours you do don't really makes no difference. i would have to do a 60 hour week to earn anything decent

the whole point of been a student is to get qualified, you should only work as much as you really need to so you have enough time and energy left over to get some studying done. owning a new car while studying is completely unrealistic unless you have rich and generous parents who are willing to pay for it. i saw so many people stuggle at university because they worked every day. they were often absent or late and always tired. i guess i was lucky because i was still earning at least £100 a week working on cars in my spare time and at weekends so i found it pretty easy. realistically to achieve something at university you need to treat it as a full time occupation. if you only go to lectures and tutorials you'll really stuggle come exam time. university is guided learning so they assume you'll do most of the work in your own time. so many people dont read the material and dont do the work, then on exam days or assignment deadlines they cry and say the uni is crap

Anyway, we still don't know what the new Bravo will look like. You might hate it when it's released!

Plus you don't want a new car at Uni... Someone will be sick on it or steal it or scratch it or take it apart and re-assemble it in someone's living room.. You get the idea?

when you start working full time you can get yourself a nice £5000 bankloan over 3 years and buy a nearly new car (like a 2 year old GP). that way to get what you want and it wont cost you the earth. patience is a virtue and all that :)

Rich and generous parents...ah..the joys of life!!!haha!!

your right jug. am thinking of carrying on with extra hours for a few more weeks or another month then cutting down. going to put a bit of money away every week though and come the end of uni i can use that as a deposit on one. if i decide to buy one
