One day the wife lowered both the drivers and passenger windows to clear condensation but both failed to go back up, i checked the fuses but all were ok. I managed to get the windows closed by running power straight from the battery to the window motors so obviously they are ok. so i'm left with the relay (i think, but i'm lost at this stage). I've pulled out the glove box and i see both a red and black relay. I figured it was the red one coz i could hear a click from this when i tried to operate the windows, so i got one from the breakers yard (this one could have been gone too) and the same still happens. I have since noticed that the central locking isnt working, this could have happened at the same time.
Would this problem be related? :bang:
Is the windows the red or black relay, or some other one? :bang:
Thanks.

you need a multimeter to check where the power is getting to obviously there is some point where it is not getting to the motor, you need to find out where it stops and why. a haynes manual has a useful wiring diagram, and details for all relay locations and internal circuits, so you can fully test the circuit. relay failure is very rare so i'd say the chance of both your relay and the scrapyard one been faulty is very slim. the switches rarely fail either (might want to check wiring on back of driver's door switches). fuse problems are by far the most common problem with window and locking failure, so i'd say check every fuse in the fuse boxes again to be sure. my money is on a wiring short somewhere.
