the exhaust tail pipe bends down (as it does on many cars) to make sure fumes do not collect under the car and enter the cabin. if you chop the bend off you'll soon find yourself dizzy with the fumes. on cars where the curved tail pipe is not used, they instead make sure the tail pipe protudes from the rear bumer to prevent the fumes from collecting under the car.
i dont like noisey exhaust either, but a cheap and nasty chrome tail pipe does nothing to enhance the look of your car. so the best option is to chop the curved tail pipe off and then att ach a good quality stainless steel tail pipe in ushc a way that it doesn't actually look like a tail pipe. unless you get on your knees you'd never really know i dont have a real twin exit back box. but my tail pipe only cost £5 off ebay, is real stainless steel, and was easy to fit. i've chopped the original tail pipe right back to about 3" long and straight (using a grinder), then i've attached the twin exit tail pipe onto it so it is touching the back box and not sticking too far out from the bumper, preventing the usual cheap and nasty look of other tail pipes.
