Red Key

hi my bravo wont start something to do with the key and the code i only have the two blue keys and no red key i have tryed both the blue keys and the bloke at the garage says they both dont work is this possible for both the blue keys to loose the code at the same time and more importantly what the hell do i do about the red key apart from pay fiat 1200 quid to fix it all please please help

oh no! not another red key problem. the blue keys are both slaves. the red key is the master. that means the ecu is linked to the red key permanetly, and any blue key can be programmed into the ecu using the red key.

if your ecu has lost the blue key codes (key code light remains on when trying to start car, and engine wont start) and you dont have the red key you cant do much about it. the options are-

1. replace the ecu and all locks and keys with a set obtained from another car (£100 at scrapyards & breakers but its tricky finding a full set of keys and locks and ecu all from the same car, and making sure its the same engine as your car) fitting the whole lot is relatively easy, just a bit of a hassle.

2. go to http://www.codeman.org/ and find out about getting the immobiliser disabled on your ecu. doesnt cost too much (£100-200), you simply post the ecu to them, it comes back ready to plug back into the car and away you go. both keys will work, but so will a screwdriver and force (no immobiliser!) so you'll need to consider installing some new security or take the risk. an aftermarket alarm/immob is cheap on ebay and easy to fit.

3. let fiat install a new ecu and provide a set of keys to fit your existing locks and work with the ecu. costing more than the car is worth.

and in future dont buy a fiat with a code system 1 immobiliser unless it has the red key (guess i dont need to tell you that now) :)

N.B. if your key code light isnt remaining on when you try to use a blue key then the problem isnt the key codes, its something else. dont take the diagnostic check as gospel. is the orange key code light staying on?

thanks for that dude it really helped couldnt seem to get that info from anyone else the cars at a garage at the mo but im sure the orange key light was on ive enquired about sending the ecu off so mite go for that option the garage are tellin me that when hooked up to the compo its sayin no connection to the keys and fiat want 60 quid for diagnositcs and 1200 for new ecu unit ignition barrel and locks so they gan go fck themselves lol thanks again dude

I suggest to first go to scrapy and see if u can get ecu with keys and barrels (full set). If you can then just change the ecu and the key barrels and u should be fine.

Dont think the red key will help, if the immobiliser is not reading the 2 keys you have then its unlikely to read the red key, (if you had it). Sounds like a immo box issue and you cant install a new one without red key!. Its worth re-fitting the ring antenna connector into the immo box several times to check for a poor connection.
If you have the Megamos immo, then its simple to read the key codes from immo and have a replacement key made. If its a Marelli immo I can extract the 4 byte codes from immo, but still working on transfering data to working RFID chip, (I havn't a key and immo that match yet for testing). If you decide to remove immo, could I buy it? (and a readout from Timpsons reader of your existing key/s), to work out the method used.
Tony.

hi thanx for all youre help i have also since been told that if it is the imobiliser that the car wouldnt turn over at all it would just click at the mo its starting to turn but no actually managing to start but if i do tae it off u can have it no problem

not true, the immob would allow the starter motor to turn the engine over. it doesnt immobilise in that way, the starter motor is not part of the immob circuit.
