Owned a P reg 1.6 sx brava for a few interesting months. I had an injector failure six weeks ago and had it replaced. Just before a long trip, same warning light and rough running again (different cylinder), so I got the train. On my return, the injector cleared itself, just clogging at start up. Ran some Wynns through and had no bother for a week. 2 days ago, number 1 pot stopped working. There is no warning light on. Does this mean its not the injector? The ht leads and plugs have been changed. I have a 100 mile trip tomorrow. Would it damage the engine to run it that distance on 3 cylinders with another bottle of injector cleaner? I am diy useless by the way.
Oh, while I'm typing, is it an easy job to replace the float thing in the tank which tells you your fuel level? That also works when it feels like it.
Any advice gratefully received - cheers

my 1.6 bravo did nearly 10,000 miles (by the previous owner) with a faulty injector because no one could fix it and it did no harm to anything other than the sparkplug and HT lead that was on that cylinder. so go for it (y)

if the injector light isnt on i'd think it isnt an injector fault, or the light has stopped working (does it still come on for a few secs when first startign the car). a faulty injector should bring the light straight on.

the fuel gauge may have the intermittent fault because of a wiring problem with the instrument panel, i'd try removing it and chekc both the connectors on the bakc are secire and clean. alterntively try banging your fist on the dash above it to see if that has an effect.

failing that you can replace the fuel gauge sender unit in the fuel tank. i've never done this on a bravo so i cant really comment, but it will be accessible by removing the plastic access cover under the boot carpet.

Thanks for the reply jug. Thing is, I did go for it but had to turn back after 10 miles. The car lost all revving power once or twice, would not go above 3000 in any gear. I stopped on the shoulder and came home without further bother. Car is running ok now on 3 cylinders. The injector light still works at start up. Mechanic mate of mine is also puzzled, but thinks it can't be a coincidence that the light was coming on a few days ago occasionally. The only other problem happening is the indicator slows up only when turning right, just for a few seconds, then picks up again. Told you it was wierd.

Will that tell me? There are no dash warnings. Please bear with me, never owned a car with an ecu before.

Getting the codes read from the ECU will give you/garage a clue to the fault.

It's not the first time I have changed a injector only for another to fail shortly afterwards, not saying it is the injector but its not uncommon. If the fault is present you could check the resistance of the injector, personally i'd rather 'scope' the injector pattern out on examiner, fiat diag equipment.

very very true.

and a quick blast on the examiner can save time and money

Once again, thanks for all the advice. The amazing self healing car did it again. Ran like a new car for 2 days, then the injector light reappeared. Being mechanically useless, have ordered a new injector on ebay and will get a mate to fit. Afraid I've had enough fun now, getting rid and going japanese. Pity, as I find this car great to drive when it feels like it.

sorry to hear it, but its a story i've heard many times with fiats. hope you dont lose too much money out of all this.

a jap car will very probably be less trouble. i fancy a civic vti myself, but the old man interior is putting me off, and insurance seems to be a lot more.
