a bit of a crease in the boot floor is nothing, it wont need jigging, bodyshops fix worse things every day. bet it wont cost much to fix if you get the bumper and tailgate yourself.

I appreciate you hand out good advice the majority of times but i'm afraid this is not one of them. The reason we pay so much for our insurance is simple. The No win No fee culture i.e. people claiming for injuries that do not exist. Don't do it, take your money and buy another car. If everyone was honest we would all be paying sub £200 for our car insurance and receiving better settlement claims. The american 'sue you culture' is crippling this country and I know its become the way things are done but it is wrong, illegal and fraudulent and we all pay the consequences. To openly discuss and suggest this course of action on an open forum that could be monitored by anyone is not the brightest of things.
Also your suggestion that the poor chap should deal directly with the other insurance company directly is just wrong. We pay Insurance companies for a reason let them do heir job. If we have a bump the normal course of events are as follows:
Inform your own insurance company who arrange for inspection and repair of your vehicle. They then pursue the 3rd party's insurance for payment if it was indeed their fault. Once they have received their money you will then be reimbursed the excess on the policy and you will not lose your no claims bonus.
Cheers Phil
