Hi

I've just taken ownership of a Brava, today I put some fuel in and on the way back home I notice a symbol illuminated intermittently. The best I can describe this symbol is in the shape of say petrol pump handle or something similar!

Now the symbol didn't appear until I put some petrol in the tank, any help greatly appreciated.

By the way I don’t have the owners manual, hence the reason for asking.

We meet again so soon :) Is it a red one that looks like liquid spurting out of something? If so it's the injector light - it should come on when you turn the car on and go right off again. If it's not going off, then it could be that you have a blocked or faulty injector. Try some injector cleaner, such as Redex, first before looking more in-depth.

Hi Helz

Thanks for the reply (y)

Yes it is a red symbol that resembles liquid squirting out of a hose or something like that.

Started it up this morning, and the light came on as you mentioned, but went out shortly after turning the key. Didn't come on during the journey so, I think things are OK.

But I will follow your advice about the Redex, should it start to come on intermittently as it did yesterday.

the fuel injection system fault light can come on for many reasons, think of it as an engine management light.

if you even notice it comes on and the engine runs rough you have a problem and should post details on the forum. (including engine size in future posts :))

Hi Folks

Took the car out for a spin this aft, didn't have any problems with the injector light coming on. Got to a village about 10 miles away and stopped off to get some bits and pieces from the shops.

Started car and the injector light started to come on and off as before, however once I'd got back onto open roads it stopped doing that.

Jug, the engine sounds fine to me however I've only been driving this vehicle for a few days now, and my ears haven't become accostomed to its quirks.

I assume that when you say 'the engines running rough' it's quite audible, all I can say it's running very smooth and I can't hear anything untoward.

It could be my driving! But I'll keep an eye on the situation and I might put some Redex in as advised by Helz.

Once again many thanks for the input.

ah the good old 1.6

i like the 1.6 engine, its easy to work on and the only real fault is the fuel injectors. coincidentially they are the most common cause of the fuel injection light to come on, but when an injector fails the engine runs rough, i.e. its jerky and wont rev very well and idle is all over the place stuggling to keep going.

if that happens let us know and we'll tell you how to test and replace the injectors. it easy and cheap to fix (£5) so dont worry about it (y)

How do you fix the injector (fuel) for a £5 really use full information to know :D Incase my 1.6 does it !

there's about a million posts on this forum about diagnosing fuel injector faults, and replacing them, on the 1.6 engine. a fuel injector is £5 at a scrapyard, and provided you test it prior to removal its a very easy and quick way to fix the 1.6's most common fault. have a search (because i really cant be bothered to write it all again :) )
