I've just had a diagnostic test on the Bravo  and there must be a cheaper way to do this:

first of all:

Reed Management System, crankshaft sensor required: £117.90

Front pads & discs: £112

Rear shoes need replacing, worn unevenly: £55

The prices are what the garage have quoted me.

Also, i asked them to check the cambelt, they said the one thats fitted is a Gates Powergrip, does anyone know if this a standard Fiat fitted cambelt or could it have been changed since the last guy owned it? The cars done 66000

Cheers Guys!!

No, whether anyone knows a cheaper way to get the parts? whether any of that stuff would be available at a scrappies etc

crankshaft position sensor from scrapyard: £5-10

Front pads at local motor factors: £10-15

Front discs at local motor factors: £35-40

Rear shoes at local motor factors: £15-20

total cost £85 max. saving you £200.

fitting the brakes is easy as pie, a 12 year old with a haynes manual could do it. why not try it, or ask a friend/family member to do it (you must know someone with a socket set and a jack and some spare time).

fitting the sensor is also easy if you use a haynes manual. you'll need a feeler gauge (£3) to ensure the gap is correct, or a garage can do it while you wait for a small fee if you arrange it prior to going.

Gates make the best timing belts you can get on planet earth. they are standard equipment on the majority of modern cars (over half of the cars on the road in europe if you believe gates promotional material), but i dont know if they are standard on fiats, a quick call to your locla fiat dealer will confirm it.
