i have a set of fiat alloys on my brava the mechanic said that the nut thats are on them are for steel rims an are dangerous i went to fiat an i think they sold me the same weel nuts i think i need alloy weel nuts can any 1 show me what these look like an where i can get some.

the difference is the collor if you look at the side of a steel bolt it will look like this

They are called wobbly bolts and allow for a slight mismatch between the PCD (distance between the holes) on the hub (98mm)and the alloys (presumably 100mm). Most alloy wheel specialists and motor factors should keep them. Ensure you have a locking bolt on each wheel as well so they don't get pinched

alloy wheel bolts have a bigger collar than steel wheel bolts, because the extra surface area of the collar is needed to reduce the pressure on the alloys (per square mm in contact). alloys are softer than steel wheels and can be damaged by the wrong bolts. get the right ones, you local motor factors will supply a set for approx £12.

its not uncommon for people to buy a set of alloy wheels and not bother to change their bolts. dont expect your wheels to drop off or anything, but dont be surprised if the steel wheel bolts damage the bolt hole faces on alloys.

In Germany there is for each alloy rim a specified set of bolts which are generally sold with the alloys if new. In the "general permission of use" which each car sold in Germany is supposed to have, this set is specified as being obligatory.
The problem is you often need longer or shorter bolts as the original ones since the effective distance between bolt hole of the rim and support varies in function of the rim mounted.
The bolts I got with my rims (I had to specify technical details of my car) are about 8 mm longer than the original ones...
