Ive been given a load of goodies for my car and was wondering if any body knew the size hole i have to play with for the components on the front doors of a bravo>>>??? any clue

The original speakers are 5x7" (oval) but if you chopped away at the surroundings you might have a tad more room (though unless you re-form the door card you might end up 'hiding' some. Not sure on depth, I know some people have struggled fitting deeper 5x7 speakers. It wouldn't take you long to get the door card off to take a look (just be careful around the white stuff).

you buy adapters or pods to fit the speakers you want. most adapters are designed for 5.25 inch speakers. but i've seen a pod for a 6.5inch speaker. if you have good quality components runnning on an amp there's n o reason why a pair of 5.25 inch mids in the doors wont be perfectly adequate. i've got JBL 5.25 mids in the doors with the tweters on the dash and the crossovers hidden in the fuse box area.

Hi, got a bit of a complicated problem. Basically i have 6x9's running at the back and tweeters running at the front from a fli 4 channel amp situated in the back of my car. The 6x9's werent a problem. For the tweeters i had to be a bit more creative (because i couldnt be botherd to rip my car apart) so I used the original wires that used to power the orignial speakers from fiat to power the tweeters.

Basically i used the wires that powered the original speakers at the back of the car in reverse order to power the tweeters at the front.

I had to buy a wiring block and cut the ISO adapter and rewire the wires so that i could connect my amp (at the back of the car) to the tweeters (at the front of the car). Turns out this idea had more than 1 benefit because fiat used the tweeter wires to also power the door speakers so i also now have cables to power the door speakers.

I dont know if i have explained what i have done clearly but my problem now is i am about to buy a pair of speakers for the front doors and i have two questions.

I was wondering if anyone knows how fiat managed to connect four speakers onto 2 channels because if they did it in parrallel then it would have obvious implications for my amp and speakers and ditto for a series connection. So my question is:

Does anyone know if the tweeters and door speakers are connected together in parrallel or series?

My second question is about speakers size.

I know the speakers in the door are 5x7 but i have a spare pair of GOOD 6x9's and i was wondering if somehow i could save money and install these 6x9's into the doors?

Thanks alot for your help.

haha very clever (y) i did exactly the same thing the first time i wired my front speakers into my amp. i did a quick test to see if they were wired in parallel or series.

firstly you must disconnect the speaker, tweeter and wiring connector on the stereo. then you have 3 pairs of terminals to do continuity tests on. if the positive terminal for front left on the wiring connector has continuity to both the positive on the front left tweeter and the positive on the front left speaker then they are wired in parallel. if not they must be series. i wont tell you result, its more fun to do it yourself. :)

as you are probably aware, when in series load impedance increases – the more speakers, the higher the impedance. so if they are in series the output will be halfed between the 2 speakers.

load impedance drops when speakers are wired in parallel. the more speakers you wire in, the lower the impedance. so if they are in parallel the output will be doubled across the 2 speakers.

either way you're better off using passive crossovers to split the output between each speaker and tweeter, keeping the original wiring only on the door speaker, and adding a new wire to the tweeter. then send the signal to each crossover using the original rear speaker wiring if you prefer to be lazy. (y)

that would be cheating. besides whats that old saying-

tell a man how to do something and he'll forget, show a man how to do something and he'll remember for a while, let a man do something and he'll remember it forever.

or something like that
