ok. i have read a couple forums and the uneven idling seems to be a really common problem. I have Fiat bravo S 1,4 -84 and it luckily quite rarely starts idling unevenly. usually it doesn't last very long but it is quite annoying.

Also i'd like to ask if its normal that the engine kind of "kicks in" when i start accelerating from zero gas.. erm.. i didn't know how to put this right but i meant that i have a gear on, lets say 3 and speed is lets say about 40kmh and i put my feet on the gas pedal ..I don't know much about these things but i think it should start accelerating somewhat smoothly?

..hope you can make sense of this :)

Hi,
Welcome to the forum :D

Uneven idling faults can be difficult to find, so if it is only happening rarely I would just put up with it.

The 'kick in' you describe could be injector lag. It takes a fraction of a second for the injector fuel pressure to catch up with the extra air being let into the engine. If this lag is very noticeable then it could be that your MAP sensor / fuel pressure regulator is faulty.

Get back to us if you have any more questions.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.:D

I also have a very similar problem with my Bravo 1.4 s-'97
I resolved the idle issue by adjusting accelerator cable adjustment nuts (13mm)
This has stoped mine cutting out, but the car only runs correctly when accelerating fairly hard,as soon as you let off the gas the car lunges forward almost like a fuel cut off felling.
I need to get it fixed asap and live in Covenrty any recomendation or ideas plz

P.s this is my first post so hi everyone:D

[V] Big touble took my Bravo to main dealer for diagnostic check cost me £60 and they told me i have an intermitant fault on the Idle Actuator (step motor) gona cost £200 to replace it!
As it is a sealed unit manufactured by Bosch...What a bummer!!

Anyone got any sensible ideas to reduce cost??? plz;)

if ya know what the problem is and were the part is id suggest looking for fiat scrap dealers on the net you usually get 6 months warrenty on the parts if you find one then get a garage to fit it or sort it yourself with a haynes manual i had a problem with mien and fiat was going to charge me £200 for a set of spark plugs + leads dont get the parts from them just get the expensive and overpriced diagnositc and get it sorted yourself coz they generally think of a price then times it by 3!

Hi

If your idle stepper motor has packed up this is part of the throttle body unit (SPI). I recently replaced mine (also 1.4 S)and the whole unit cost me £75 from a scrap dealer. If you do a search on the internet for used car parts you will get a number of hits.

It's a relatively straight forward thing to remove & replace the SPI & should take less than an hour. Just remember if you are ordering this unit do make sure to get the part number which is on the side of the SPI next to the 2 vacuum connections that go to the air inlet box.
