Would a bravo, if fitted with HGT wings and bumper be able to house a 2.4 JTD, preferably the 20v from an Alfa?

If I do get the chance to make a project car, it would have to be ecconomic to make up for the hike in insurance - thus the JTD.

Upto 250bhp in a Bravo.. well all projects have to start with a dream right?

the wings and bumper are bigger on the hgt but it makes no difference to the engine bay size.

i've thought about sticking the 2.4jtd in a bravo, and lots of other cars for that matter, but it would probably be cheaper and more fun to just buy an alfa 156 2.4 jtd (definately my next car (y) )

are you sure the 2.0 doesnt fit straight in? i thought it did but the wider wings were needed because the hgt's have slightly longer driveshafts and in the EU a car's wheels cant protrude from the arches.

I think it does make a difference otherwise the 2.0 20v petrol wouldn't fit!

True it would be easier to buy a 156, but its an old mans car! My soon to be father in law owns one!

yes he does but is bloody gorgeous and if he ever sells it i might be the first inline lol

mine saying that if u manage to pull this project off i think alot of ppl would want to see it ;)

Have to get the money first..

then a bravo with a blown engine, and a rear-ended 156 :chin:

Indeed it would be an amazing car. I've not heard of a 2.4 bravo before. Would try to keep the bravo as standard as possible from the outside.. Street sleeper style!

if you did it i'd be interested in buying a copy of "hellcat's JTD bravo guide" on vhs and dvd. then again scrap vhs no one uses videos any more, maybe you could do one of those monthly subscription things where you get an update for just 4.99 in the first 2 months then 9.99 a month after that. this month, bartering with greasy scrap merchants.

This is my ideal project too, although into a Brava.

From what I can tell, the differance is in the wings. All the engine bays being the same size.

I've done some eper'ing. The block looks identical. Which means an alfa 2.4 should sit on a Marea 2.4 front chasis. That means I can use Marea lower arms, driveshafts, hubs and suspension. Mechanically getting the engine to fit seems the easy part. The hard part will be how much of the Alfa electronics I need to bring over

So the hunt is on for a snapped cam-belt HGT (or some other engine failure) and a body-munched Alfa 2.4JTD. 170bhp version. The bravo will hopefully retain all its original visible parts, with a single exception. In recognition of the engine which will be powering it, I propose alloy 147 handles as a clue to the engine :D

Does this mean i better start to save up and fund your project Rob? If you make the car you better get me insuranced on it :D

The 2.4 JTD in a Marea is not 20v.. it's only 10v, in the same way as the 1.9 Fiat JTD is 8v and the Alfa 1.9 JTD is 16v. Not sure why Fiat/Alfa decided to limit the release of the multivalve JTDs.

The alfa has a 20v head and in the Mk 2 version its 175bhp standard. Nige can take them upto 200-250  depending on the wear on the engine/clutch etc. That's why I'd use the Alfa engine over the Fiat.

They both use the same block so I could use all Marea 2.4 running gear (subframe, lower arms, hubs). The gearbox... not sure if they are the same, or if the Marea box will take the 200+bhp/400+lb ft.
