Dear Bravo comrades,
Help! I recently bought a 1996(N) Fiat Bravo 1.8 HLX (16V) - truly lovely motor - but I did buy knowing it had a faulty ABS warning light. The previous owner said it was just a broken wire that travels under the car - on the test run and to present the breaks seem fine, but I would really appreciate any feedback that might help me to correct the problem.
Yours hopefully,
Chris E :)

each wheel has a wheel speed sensor, its a basic sensor with 2 wires. this sensor tells the ABS controller if a wheel has stopped rotating. if your abs light is remaining on it means one of the sensors is not returning any signal, i.e. somewhere the signal isnt getting through, this could be a broken wire or a fault inside the abs sensor. i recently opened one of the abs sensors on my hlx and used tinfoil to get a contact on the 2 pins that slot into the 2 tiny slits inside the abs sensor. to find which sensor is damaged use a multimeter continuity test on the 2 wires for each wheel speed sensor, when you find the problem (no continuity) try repairing it. a new wheel speed sensor is £135, so it's worth trying to repair yours. check the wiring first, if it sems fine open the abs sensor and try using tinfoil to regain contact on both pins.

Got my Brava ( V reg ) in January this year , and when i bought it the ABS warning light was on all the time . Just had the MOT and was told this light on was a failure so the garage took it to FIAT to investigate .

The FIAT dealer said that this model ( 80SX 16v ) didnt have ABS as standard :bang: and mine had not got it fitted  , so the MOT garage just had to remove the dash and blank out the light socket ( didnt want to dissable the light in case it caused any other problems) so got a full years MOT .

Get this checked out first to avoid egg on your face at the Fiat specialist .
