i have a bravo 1.6 16v with an immobilser problem. i have purchased a genuine Fiat lock kit with new red and blue keys and a new immobilser code. i fitted the ignition swith and put the red key into it and folled the proceedure in the handbook to enter the code, however this isnt working. after putting in the code the injector light doesnt flash. any ideas?

did you get the new red key coded to match your ecu (same code as old red key) or have you just bought a set of locks and keys from another car?

if the new red key doesnt have the same code as your old red key then you will need a virgin ecu to learn the new red key, or you will need to get the code changed on the new red key. you can take the keys apart and swap the little code chips round youself if you still have both red keys. the red key code is stored on the ecu and cannot be changed. the ecu is useless without its red key, and vice versa, so if you bought a set of locks and keys you should have also bought the matching ecu to go with the red key.

no i bought a genuine fiat kit. its sold as a repair kit incase you loose all your keys, it includes new locks and ignition barrel, a new red key and 2 new blue keys and comes with a new code to match the keys. ive tried putting the code in following the emergency procedure that is in the hand book but its not working. im not sure if this is the correct procedure or not

i dont see how you can program a new red key into the old ecu, there's no way i know of. thats the whole problem with the fiat code system and the reason the red key is important. i've never heard of a repair kit that doesnt include a new ecu, although i have heard of people getting their ecu flashed to accept the new red key code, fiat deny its possible but it is. if you bought the repair kit from fiat then surely fiat will provide some assistance?

if you do get the new red key working please post the procedure on this forum, i'd be interested to know how the ecu can be taught new red key codes.

yep there's a few places like codeman that can flash your old ecu to remove the red key code, i've heard its done by passing 5Vdc down the main earth pin of the ecu while earthing it on a few pins but i dont know the combination or if thats definately how its done. either way you cant program a red key into an ecu that already has a red key code in it, it must be a virgin ecu with no code. whoever sold that repair kit needs shooting

ok thanks guys, ive give up on the new key kit and bought a complete running 1.6 brava, and will just swap all the electronics and locks, easier and at £82 for the complete taxed car , a darn site cheaper that trying to get the ecu sorted
thanks for the help :)

thats my favorite option, you get to fix your car and make a profit selling some spares. then you get a local scrappy to remove whats left for free. at £82 it cant go wrong

Let me get this straight: You bought a Brava for 82 quids?
Are you serious?

at auction you can get all sorts of good cars for less than 100. you'd be shocked with what goes at auctions. many of the cars in the autotrader that go for 1000+ were bought a couple of weeks earlier at auction for 100 or less. its easy money if you have the time, unfortunately i dont have the time anymore, but my contract at work ends in a month so i think i'll be popping back to the auctions sometime soon. honestly its amazing, you'd wet your knickers if you went to one. you can get practically new cars for 3000, my girlfriend's dad has just bought 2 identicle 2004 renault megane scenics for less than 4k each, both with less then 20k on the clock. its madness.

after checking out the brava 1600 16v and driving it back to blackpool from bury, the car is too good to scrap. i bought the brava on ebay Item number: 4643508261, taxed for 2 months , mot just expired, recent full exhaust , new clutch in november last year, 42000 miles 2 owners and immaculate interior for £83. swapped the ecu locks and immobiliser to my bravo which is now running and back on the road, just bought some 17" alloys for it and now looking for a body kit for it as well.

so im now looking for a damaged or dead brava/bravo for another ecu kit or buy an ecu kit to put this brava back onto the road.
