Ok, i am new to manual transmission. but here is my question.
Say i am on third gear on an open space, not going too fast and the rpm is about 2-3rpm. When sometimes i take my foot off the gas pedal, i feel as if the car is pulling back (like putting second gear on a downslope hill, but not that strong). It goes away if i put my foot back on the gas pedal or on the brakes.
Is this normal? or is there a problem?

Thanks

but why doens't it happen in automatic cars? i mean it might pull back in automatic cars, but it is barely noticable.
In a manual you feel the car pulling back with a bit of shaking (Plus it makes you feel that the car is loose or something). Do you think when this happens i should go onto 4th gear?

thanks again

Automatics don't do it because the car selects a higher gear to reduce engine damage, and engine braking is less with higher gears. IAM recommends using the foot brake under usual conditions because discs and pads are cheaper than clutches and gearboxes, but ultimately the choice is yours (y)

IAM assumes the average driver would get it wrong and pop their box. They're probably right given the standard of driving I've witnessed today.

Once you're experienced enough you can start chaning down as you brake, more experienced still and you can start matching engine speed to gearbox speed by blipping.

in america they dont understand the advantages of "stick shift".
then again they dont understand how a 1.6 litre ford escort can beat most of their 3 litre deathtraps. fools.
