General KEYS Question

in that case you're buggered if you cant get your remote working because a year 2000 model is a mk2. :(

I hope it works then, I'm hoping once it has the correct number of batteries in it should be o.k. It does look pretty beat up though. I am trying to get onto the previous owner to try and find the other blue key for the central locking.

Their child broke that key off in the drivers side lock so at the moment the only way I can get in is from the passenger side.

remove the handle, then the lock barrel, then the broken bit of key, its easy enough, but i would say that now that i've done it half a dozen times :)

Batteries arrived and still dosn't work. I'm going to try soldering it like you said.

One other question though, If I can get hold of another key with it's code fob in tact can I teach the car to work with it or is the central locking and the Key only programmed to work with the original key?

you can teach it any remote using the button on the interior light assembly, but you need a code to do it.

each remote has a 4 digit code, when the car is new 2 remotes are paired with the car, each with their own 4 digit code, you can use either code to teach the central locking a new remote (NOTE: any remotes that are not learnt again will have their 4 digit code removed from the car's memory, meaning you cant use that code next time, so ideally you need to always know the code for at least 1 working remote). on mk1 models the codes are provided on 2 paper keyrings when the car is new, because they are only paper they can come off and be lost easily. on mk2 models (99-02) the codes are not provided and fiat did not keep a record of them for uk models because insurance companies decided it was not safe.

So you need an existing code to teach a new one?

I have no codes, Can I buy two second hand keys that have codes, switch the blades or PCB and teach the central locking to open with the new keys?

exactly, you need an existing code.

if you bought some second hand keys you would also need the matching alarm ecu, then you dont need to program anything, just swap the PCB's over on the keys, fit the new alarm ecu, and they will work (if they worked on the donor car). the alarm ecu doesnt need to be paired with your main ecu so there is no compatibility problems like you have with the immob.

Right can I end this please!!!

You have red (master) key yes? And you want 2 blue (slave) keys yes?

OK here goes......

1)go to dealer/timpsons/woolworths/sunday market/asdas wherever you want to get 2 blue keys. I state dealer because alot of cheaper keys that you can get can sometimes have difficulty programming thats all not because i'm biased.
2)Get keys cut to same pattern as your red one.
3)Leave the shop/market/supermarket(delete as appropiate)
4)Try cut keys in car door to make sure they are cut correctly
5)Get in car
6)put red key in ignition & turn on,wait for code light to go out(about 3 secs)
7)take out red key & put one of the blue keys in,turn ignition on,wait for code light to go out(3 secs)
8)take key out & put other blue key in,turn ignition on,wait for code light to go out(3 secs)
9)take blue key out & put red key back in again, turn ignition on,wait for code light to go out(3 secs)
10)take red key out.
11)try both blue keys & make sure engine starts with them both.
12)put keys on key ring
13)drive home
14)switch on PC & access Fiat forum website
15)Donate £5.00 after all you have saved £££

The end:D

Thanks.

Assuming this works with a punto?

hi, how important is it that i get myself a couple of blue keys with unique codes, i only have a red one right now but i know i need to get it cloned for emergencies but don't understand why i may need two blue keys if i have a backup of my red one.... i'm confuzzled now:confused:

the reason you need 2 blue keys with different codes is that the car cant tell the difference between 2 keys if they have the same code, and it needs to be able to 'see' 2 different blue keys when you use the red for keyu programming. the red key should not be used for driving! the red key must only be used when programming blue keys.

get a copy made of your red key, just in case you lose your red. you also need ot get 2 blue keys made, cut the same as the red key, but given codes differet to the red key and different to each other, you can borrow the codes from another fiat with the system1 immob (bravo, brava, marea, mk1 punto, cinq).

i bought my fiat doblo second hand. they said that they had lost so they onnly gave me a blue key.i only came to this site to check where i could get a spare key cut but now im worried that i might need a red one or something? do i need one if so where can i get one?if not where should i go to get a spare blue key?

doblo is system2 so there is no red key. you can only get new keys from the dealer, costing £120 each for a remote key, but much less for a standard key.
