Technical brava only runs when cold

im no expert, others may no alot more than me.there are hot and cold start relays that tell the brain if your engine is starting from cold or hot,and when to stop injecting so mutch fuel.the hot sounds like its at fault.next time it cuts out remove a plug to see if its wet with unburnt fuel.a diaog.chek on a laptop will tell you all.

if it aint broke dont fix it.purple pain.up the villa.brava 1.6sx.
no fag.lighter required.

troubleshooting hint...

1. Malfuction throttle position sensor/potentiometer
2. Overlean air fuel ratio due to air leakage, low fuel line pressure
3. Malfuction of ignition system...the coil
4 over rich air fuel ratio...correction of coolant temperature sensor
5. Low engine compression pressure

I have experienced a similar sounding problem with my 1.4S(see some earlier threads on the board). It's still early days (1 week during which time I have only used my car 2 or 3 times) but I think I may have tracked the problem down.

After a call out to the AA and an extensive roadside diagnosis, it was concluded that it was either the single point injection unit (SPI) failure or an earthing problem on the wiring loom feeding the SPI (in particular the inlet air temp sensor).

Discounting an earth fault as it all looked OK, I ordered a secondhand SPI (£75), the option of new one from Fiat or Allparts at £500 was not really on!!! I fitted it last weekend and as I say this seems to have dealt with the problem. On previous experience with a Citroen ZX that has a similar SPI, the part in the SPI that failed was actully the inlet air sensor. I have subsequently discovered that Fiat actully can supply an IAS for about £30 and it is relatively easily fitted (may have been a cheaper option for me !!!).

BTW if you need to order an SPI you must get the part number off the old one it's next to the left of the vaccum connections (a pair of blue pipes)on the SPI .

I will update this thread as soon as I have more confidence that I have really solved my problem but in the meantime I hope that my experience will help your search for a solution to yours.
